King Teddy is a late '50's and early '60's influenced swing band that is based in the Washington, D.C. area. Our songlist, both original and cover, is heavily influenced by Louis Prima, Elvis, the InkSpots, and other jump blues, swing and rock icons.
Why this name?
The name was suggested to Mike, the lead singer of the group, by his brother as a good way to represent the blend of rock and swing genres. Mostly he came up with it, though, because his name is Ted.
Do you play live?
To date, we've played as far north as Baltimore, MD and as far south as Culpeper, VA. We love to play live, and have been lucky enough to play some great wine festivals and outdoor summer concerts. Always a blast.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
If the goal of music is to have it heard by human ears, then I'd have to say the internet has been good for music as an art. The music industry, on the other hand, has no doubt suffered.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
What, are you kidding?
Your influences?
Beatles, McCartney, Sam Cooke, Louis Prima, Frank Sinatra-- melody is important for us, no matter what the style.
Favorite spot?
I hear Venice is nice.
Equipment used:
Keyboard is a Yamaha Motif ES7. Love it!
