"Baldego is one-man band J.J. McGowan. Initially starting out as a guitar player, he learned his trade in various bands, playing gigs in and around Glasgow with a slot at T-In-The-Park in 2003. Influenced by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Muse, Radiohead, Hendrix, Copelandia Cyanescens, Bill Hicks, New Falcon publications and a cast of
thousands, Baldego was born. Escape Hatch is a collection of songs recorded over the last year, inspired by trips to inner and outer spaces. It's a rocky, trippy, groove-based sound, but you can contrast and compare it yourself....check it out."

Why this name?
A follically challenged egomaniac in search of musical world domination couldn't go for anything else really...
Do you play live?
Yes, mainly in and around the Glasgow area at the moment as a solo artist. I love it, best gigs so far were at King Tut's and supporting Nick Harper on the Isle of Arran.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Internet is changing the way people listen to and buy music, taking the power away from the corporations, which should mean better music not aimed at 12 year-olds!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It would depend on the amount of artistic control i had over my music. If it was a good opportunity, then yes.
Band History:
After playing in various bands as guitar player, keyboard man, bassist and drummer, i decided to avoid the compromise and do it myself to see what i could come up with. It has it's advantages and disadvantages - good, as you can follow an idea throught to the end without friction, bad, as it takes longer to do by recording all the parts yourself! However, the results speak for themselves, and i'll continue on this path for now 'till i can get a band together.
Your influences?
Led Zep, Muse, Radiohead, Hendrix etc. Definitely into music with balls and intelligence.
Favorite spot?
Amsterdam!
Equipment used:
Fender Strat with a seymour duncan humbucker to give it some edge, premier drums, bass pod to beef up my precision bass, yamaha 16 track to record and a decent valve mic for recording.
Anything else...?
Copelandia Cyanescens are responsible for many a great idea..viva hawaiian!
