Hello, my name is Emery Carl. Welcome to my little secret hideout on the web. Thanks for stopping by. As any good host would do I'd like to offer you something to drink but you'll have to get it yourself. Let's see, what I CAN provide is a chance to hear almost all of my music. Stick around and we can jam until the wee hours of the morning.
Why this name?
That's my name, don't wear it out! ;)
Do you play live?
From the "Street to the Stage". I love to perform. The Busker's (street performer's) motto is: "Ready to play at the drop of a hat". You have to be a bit of an attention whore and performance junkie to do this. The last few years have been filled with many special moments such as getting tipped by Tom Waits, meeting Ben Harper, Beck, G. Love, when kids dance, when girls walk by and ignore me . . . then I catch them looking back, HA!, I love that. I love the spontaneity of the street and the energy of the stage. Keep an eye on my website's calendar for upcoming shows. TheTroubadourShow.com
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I believe that mp3 has leveled the playing field. At what point should a musician be compensated for their time, energy, the passionate pouring out of their souls? At a coffee shop where they get a latte and a pat on the back? At a bar or club where they get a "free" beer and ego stroke? When they sign a record deal that is little more than a really bad financing option? When they sell CD's? Oh, wait, when a distributor sells there CD or on consignment where you get less than 50% after they've already paid 60% of the retail price for the production, design, printing, burning, assembly, and shipping? When their mp3 is downloaded? or at the end of the week when their manager at McDonald's hands them a check? I am torn between the beauty of giving it all away, living on a wing and a prayer, putting it all on the line with nothing but Christ's compassionate Karma to save my ass . . .
. . . and sayin, "Hey! You better pay me %$@$&!"
I never want to write songs just designed to make money. I want to write and perform in such a way that it makes a contribution to listeners being. I'm seeking for the balance of interdependance, a mutual enrichment if you will.
Mp3 is a further test of our humanity and ability to find balance in a delicate "give and take" situation. It takes responsibility on the part of the consumer and the performer. Paying for an artist's music is like voting. You vote for who you want around. If you don't vote . . . you get someone in office that you don't really like listening to. All in all, let's keep it loving.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If one wanted me for who and what I am.
Band History:
I have been performing as a singer/songwriter/performer in Seattle WA for over 6 years now. You may have seen this show outside of such venues as: The Show Box, The Paramount, The Moore, Fifth Avenue, Key Arena, Safeco Field, Quest Stadium, Pike Place Market, Pacific Place, and Westlake Center or perhaps at a street fair or festival like Bumbershoot, Oregon Country Fair, or the Pike Market Buskers' Festival, maybe the Freemont Parade or in the University District on the Ave? I have also performed at most open mics and on every college campus in town. What drives me to reflect? to write? to perform? pour it out on the streets!? You can follow my journey, complete with brutally honest times of success and failure at TheTroubadourShow.com as I search to find a balance in the pursuit of Life, Love, and the essence of Being.
Your influences?
Everything I've ever heard really, good or bad. Life's experiences. Folk, Funk, Blues, Rock, Latin, Pop with a little Reggae, Country, Heavy Metal on the side.
Favorite spot?
Pike Place Market, Seattle WA
Equipment used:
Hula Hoops, Acoustic Guitars, harmonica, shakers, and a bit of wit for the street. When it comes to the stage I'll play anything I can get my hands on. In the studio I record with a Shure KSM44 condenser microphone, into a Mac with Logic Pro 7 software.
