We are a modern rock band from the Northern Virginia area. We are having a blast doing what we love and hope that people enjoy our creations. Come on out and see us live!! We work our rears off to have a good live sound and an engaging stage performance.
Do you play live?
We have played numerous live performances, each one seemingly better than the last. So far we're playing all up and down the East Coast region, but we're looking to expand beyond that. We love to perform and the rush that comes afterward is indescribable! We've made some great friends along the way, both in and out of bands themselves....paving the way for more great shows and living the dream of doing what we love!!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I feel very strongly that the internet (mp3 capability) has changed the music industry exponentially by creating avenues that weren't previous there for musicians. Each and every person that seriously wants to pursue a career in the music industry has to devote a lot of blood, sweat, tears, time and money just to give it a shot. And, even then, your praying that the right people will hear your song. This format and the accessibility of it to the common folk enables a lot of great bands, who otherwise may not have had the means & opportunity, to express themselves having a far greater chance of being discovered.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Most definitely, I would sign a contract with a major label! One thing I've learned since we started this journey is the unbelievable amount of work that goes into even the most minute aspects of being a band. Buying parts, insuring your instruments & yourselves, finding venues, networking, advertising, merchandising, etc. etc. It's insane! And, ultimately, the organization of it all takes time away from the playing of the music, which is the whole reason why you did it in the first place. I have a great deal of respect for individuals who take on that amount of responsibility and do it well!
Band History:
The making of Spilt all started rather casually when John and Swen would hang out after work in a large room of the warehouse and jam! A few weeks into it and they had a long list of original tunes they'd come up with just for the fun of it. After several discussions, they thought it would be cool to get a bassist in there with them and the arduous search began. It took a while, but they finally found Aaron, who just blew them away! More and more songs were getting composed by the three of them when they had the sudden realization that they are really good!! Aaron then introduced them to his good friend Riley and it was like they were all made for each other; the sound came together almost immediately!
Your influences?
Our influences are very diverse, that's what makes Spilt so interesting to listen to........Aaron is a lover of metal...he also likes some really hippie stuff too. John listens to a lot of metal and also punk, a big fan of Tool and Primus. Riley is a fan of rock and hip-hop and loves 311. Swen listens to everything from Slipknot to NOFX to Neil Diamond, he is very eclectic....
Favorite spot?
There are too many cities to list that we enjoy playing, but thus far our favorite show has been at T.T. Reynolds in Fairfax, VA. We played unbelievably well there and the crowd response was phenomenal!
