Hi, My name is Ali and these are my songs. Feel free to have a listen and let me know what you think.
Why this name?
Well, my parents kinda did...
Do you play live?
Open Mic nights and such, occasionally do my own solo gigs. Looking to get more.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It gives people the chance to find new music themselves and judge it on its own merits entirely objectively. Hype and radio play, advertising etc, can all be removed from the equation to some extent and it should in theory give people greater access to more and better music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It depends entirely on the situation, but if I was sure it wouldn't render me entirely over-saturated within a month of being signed (as so often is the case now, bands being signed and then getting rammed down our throats on radio and tv day after day. The turnover in a quick grab for profit has become ridiculous meaning that a career in music is not really an option, its a kind of "get in get out" scenario, although that may have as much to do with the ever decreasing attention span of an increasingly fickle society.).

I want to write songs for the rest of my life, and i will do even if its only me that will hear them.
Its nice to share though, gives them slightly more purpose. If a major could do that and help more people hear them (without making people sick of me) as well as allow me to make songwriting my "job", I would welcome the opportunity.

Guess that makes me a "sell-out" huh?
Band History:
For as long as I can remember I used to envy anyone who could play a musical instrument. As a child I would constantly sing along to anything (including guitar solo's, much to the annoyance of my parents) and would constantly make up tunes to hum to myself. After a disaster of an introduction to music in primary school (say hello to the worlds absolute WORST recorder player) I kinda assumed I was musically rather rubbish and resumed amusing myself by keeping any such interests private. In high school however, many of my fellow classmates began learning instruments and getting together at lunchtimes to play covers by my favorite bands. I therefore took it upon myself to learn at least one instrument properly and teach myself whatever else I could get hold of so I could join in what looked like the most fun thing in the world. This lead to keyboard lessons and much playing of my dads electric guitar and the schools shiny new drumkit.

I started doing composition in High School about the same time as I was getting the hang of a couple of the instruments, but found I preferred writing my own tunes more in the style of my favorite bands of the time than serious "actual" composing. I therefore bought a trusty four-track tape recorder, and from there it just kept going.

I have played in numerous bands playing various instruments since then but my main source of fun and satisfaction has always been writing and recording. This generally means me playing and writing my own songs in the comfort of my bedroom.
Your influences?
The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Dire Straits, Huey Lewis and the News, 3 Colours Red, Green Day, Headswim, Incubus, At the Drive In, A Perfect Circle, Biffy Clyro, DJ Shadow, Jimmy Eat World, Mew, Mogwai, Deathcab For Cutie, Radiohead, Rival Schools, Ray Charles, NOFX, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer.
Favorite spot?
Loving the city of Glasgow right now having just moved here...
Equipment used:
All sorts, though my favorite thing ever is my new Taylor 214-E acoustic. I record to Pro-tools on my laptop using various other bits of software and stuff in between. An easy way to work. :)
