Heather Corcoran of WilmingtonNCmusic.com calls Jake’s songwriting “inspirational music to please any listener.” He is excited to release One Good Monday, his first full-length disc featuring nine new songs with an acoustic pop/rock feel. A college sophomore and avid singer/songwriter, Jake’s performing exploded last year when he took the academic term to play several live shows throughout North Carolina including Wilmington’s famous RiverFest. The new disc reflects his experiences of college life and welcomes a heightened level of honest songwriting.
Why this name?
It's rather simple. My name is Jake Melnyk, and instead of trying to create some un-creative alias for a one-man-band, I thought my own name would work best
Do you play live?
I play live quite often throughout North Carolina. I began with church evens leading praise music and still do that occasionally. Now I play mostly coffee shops, regional festivals, and college gigs. Yes I do like it. Big special moment- getting to play live at the Wilmington River Fest this past October. It was a beautiful day, lots of friends cheering me on, and a cool set.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It gets music more "out there" by helping several indie artists actually promote their material and reach a decent size audiance.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It's possible. It totally depends on where I am musically and personally. I still haven't decided how I want to continue this after school.
Band History:

Growing up, Jake always enjoyed working with music. After attending church conferences and being inspired by music leaders, he taught himself to play the guitar. High school was a fragile balance between music and the desire to graduate. Jake often spent late winter nights sitting with a guitar in front of the computer, going back and forth between riffs and research papers.
While leading praise music was one of Jake’s great passions, he branched out in his junior year of high school and began writing his own material. Working with singer/songwriter and good friend Sam Hensley, Jake recorded two demos: the primarily-acoustic Speckled Horizon in the winter of 2002 and the full-band Next Station in the spring of 2004. Combined the two demos sold over 200 copies.
Currently Jake plays several secular shows each year and works as a camp counselor and musician leading praise music in the summer. He is a sophomore at UNC Wilmington and is often present in the local music circuit. Recent apperances include the Wilmington RiverFest and Cape Fear Fair in the Brunswick/New Hanover region.

Your influences?
I am very much into jam-band style music. Favorite band is definitely Pat McGee and his crew. I also like any local or independent style of acoustic rock.
Favorite spot?
I'd say it's a tie between Wilmington downtown and any beach anywhere.
Equipment used:
I use a Fender Squier IV PA (yes it's small, but it works), Shure mics, Ibanez guitars, Elixir Strings, and Fender Picks
Anything else...?
I think that's about it.
