In February 2002, Todd South (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Lenny Supera (electric lead guitar, vocals) and Jim “Cap” Stapp (drums, percussion, vocals) met via the Internet, exchanged original MP3’s, and eventually got together for an informal jam session. In less than two weeks, the energy and creative vibe from that first meeting led to the formation of Burning Peace and the beginning of an amazing journey.

Before a month had passed, Burning Peace began performing on various local stages, experimenting with arrangements during live shows and working hard to add something new & exciting to the growing indie music scene. By October 2002, their all-original material and energetic live show began to draw the attention of music fans and the independent press.

Although the majority of Burning Peace songs begin with veteran composer Todd South, the varied songwriting, recording, and live performance experiences of each band member combine to form a unique and cohesive whole. As South notes, “I’ve performed some of these songs as a solo artist, but it’s clear that none are really finished until the rest of the band add their unique talents & insight. I never dreamed I’d be part of a band this good! The fact that both Lenny and Cap are longtime songwriters is the real secret to the Burning Peace sound.”

The first Burning Peace album (Over The Water, released June 2003) is both a snapshot of where the band has been and a glimpse of things to come.

After performing over 100 shows (ranging from house concerts & coffeehouses to 1,000 seat amphitheaters & special event stages) Burning Peace took several leaps forward in September 2003 with the addition of Joe Warmelink (bass guitar, vocals). The band’s popular live show was kicked into overdrive with the advent of four part harmonies, Joe’s melodic riffs, Lenny’s mind-bending leads, Cap’s acrobatic rhythms, and Todd’s soaring vocals.

Based in Reno, Nevada, Burning Peace has hosted the extremely popular open mic night at Walden’s Coffeehouse since June 2002 (earning the Reno News & Review Reader’s Choice award for “Best Open Mic” in 2002 and 2003).

Why this name?
After trying on several names (all of which were thankfully retired), the newly minted band finally turned to a Todd South original song for inspiration. Band names really need to be "played in" for them to finally feel right; Burning Peace seemed to fit the bill after its performance (open mic) debut.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
In ten years the industry will be changed to a degree unheard of since the advent of the vinyl LP.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It depends on the details of the contract. It is often-times better to keep control of your own work & destiny than to be a contract player.
