Portland, OR area singer-songwriter-guitarist Kevin Wayne has performed live at various coffee houses and churches in Oregon and Washington. Whether performing at a place that sells latte's, in a church basement rocking the homeless, or at a public park or beach somewhere people are entertained, encouraged, and challenged to think.

Why this name?

It's my 1st and middle name, which I have used since my college radio dj days.
Do you play live?

Coffee houses, churches, homeless meals. You can check on my upcoming dates by going here

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

It means a guy like me can record music in his White-trash trailer park home and be heard all over the world... with no approval or support from "lables" or "radio stations" (except you cooler than cool Internet Station owners, of course!
)
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I'm more interested in working as a professional songwriter than being a "signed" artist. If the former would get me to the latter, then I'd have to seriously consider it.

Much of stuff I'm doing to break into songwriting is located at:

Band History:

I've been playing guitar and writing songs since I was 16. I've done music in churches and some coffeehouses and coffeehouse/homeless meals, the latter of which are my favorite environment to play (no one is sitting there watching every move you make!) I have only played with a band on a few occasions. Actually, I never wanted to be a soloist...I would much prefer to be in a band. But it's hard to find people of like mind & who don't pigeonhole you as an artist. So, I struck out on my own, and that's the way it's been ever since...
Your influences?

Too many to list, really... but here goes: The Beatles, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Larry Norman, Donovan, U2, Badfinger, Bruce Cockburn, Phil Keaggy, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr, Lee Hazlewood, Steve Taylor, The Ramones, The Alarm, The Clash, The 77's, Daniel Amos, Adrian Belew, Talking Heads, Joan Jett, Old country. 60's British invasion era rock. Old school punk, new wave, glam, power pop. The Blues, Gospel, 80's alternative. Check out Little Steven's radio show "The Underground Garage" for the rest...

Favorite spot?
The Northern Oregon coast Rocks! Astoria/Seaside is a fun place to play...
Anything else...?

As far as the future goes... It'd be finishing up my debut CD, which has already turned into a 4 -year trek ... which makes me wonder how much spotainaeity will be left? But the songs will sell themselves, I'm pretty certain of that.

Originally the CD was to be titled "Lived Like Strangers", but I have more recently changed to "The Rose of the Streets." I think that title will stick in the mind a bit more...

I have about 12- 14 tracks that I've been working on both in the studio and as home demos that I feel will make an album I can stand behind. I'm currently talking to a couple of different producers about it. We'l see what transpires form there.
