Sister Sunshine
NEWS
I have written tons of new songs but you'll have to contact me to hear them, as I have not recorded most of them yet. If you're local, let's hang out and share some tunes. What's the point of living in a beach town if you stay home all the time? ~~ that part was to myself...

Sister Sunshine is currently in the process of recording many more songs to upload for your enjoyment... keep checking back, they'll be here one day! In the meantime, analog recordings from years ago have been converted to digital. They are not very well made, but at least you can get an idea of the melodies. There are also 20 songs (18 of which differ from those presented here) at jamwave.com/sistersunshine.
Why this name?
It kinda evolved over the years... I was just Sunshine from about the time I turned 15. Then one night I heard "Sista Rose" sing, and that's when the sister thing started. Lately I have been producing a showcase called "The Sweet Ladies of South Florida" and thought about changing my name to Madam Sunshine.
Do you play live?
I go through cycles, and have just emerged from dormancy again. Still shaking off the rust to some degree, but my vocals are better than ever before in my life; and my confidence, which naturally improves my stage presence, is through the roof!. That is important to me, because I am naturally claustrophobic and tend to avoid crowds in general... that is why it took me so long to come indoors and play on a stage. Some of my most precious memories are of playing on Hollywood Beach Broadwalk as a street musician - and all the great people I met down there. I intend to go back to doing this at least one night/week once the weather warms up for the year. (In Florida it fluctuates throughout the hardcore winter months, but for the rest of the year it's warm... if rainy!)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet opens up doors that would have not even existed before its proliferation. One day I had a guy in Taiwan listening to my music and chatting to me on Instant Messenger to tell me how much he enjoyed it! It thrills me more than anyone will ever know to have people all around the world hearing my songs. That is my heart's most earnest desire.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No. I very seriously doubt I would. Unless it were the right kind of company, but it's not likely! My music is a ministry, and major record labels tend to take what makes your act great and remove it... to replace it with what they think you should be like, and more often than not it ruins the artist and their work. I'd have to have complete artistic freedom within the contract, and who gives that to an unknown?
Band History:
My main webiste is at www.sistersunshine.com, and my primary bio is at jamwave.com/sistersunshine, but there is also more about me at myspace.com/sistersunshine.
I am trying to avoid repetition... yet I want to make it easy to find out what you want to know. If you have questions about my history that are not answered within these pages, feel free to email and ask. I love to hear from friendly folks!

Your influences?
Leonard Cohen, Jim Steinman (Meatloaf), Janis Joplin, Olivia Newton John, Bob Marley, Ernie Smith, John Denver, Neil Young, Alanis Morrisette, Aretha Franklin and local South Florida artists such as Billy White, Amy Carol Webb or a band called B.O.B. among many, many others.
Favorite spot?
Hawaii. (ALL of the Hawaiian islands) If I don't get there while I'm alive, when I die I'll haunt the waves there. (In a friendly way, of course!)
Equipment used:
I have sold all of my equipment and will not replace most of it, as I have discovered I have no real interest or talent in recording/mixing/mastering and would rather hire someone who has a passion for it so I can stick to what I do best. However, I will be replacing my performance gear with stuff that will be ideal for playing as a busker. I just never did enjoy playing in a smoky bar as much as I do playing out on the street to passers-by.
Anything else...?
I have been incredibly busy on projects ranging from my web design business to church or other interests - and just hanging out at my neighbor's to play. (They LOVE the personal performances... sometimes other neighbors come over as well!)
