Why this name?
Simply Complex, a dead dreamer, the village idiot, Lyrx, Anti-Christ... alas, i am many things to many people. but the one thing i have always been totally committed to keeping it real to myself and the artform. You can see I had several different nicknames and aliases, but honestly... what one name is truly all encompassing for what i'm about? the name my mom gave me. i've always been an individual and i plan on staying that way. but at the same time, i have no illusions about my place in reality... and alas, i make music from my perspective of the here and now; no smoke and mirrors, no bullshit and superhuman egos, just the rhythms that are coming from this little heart-shaped box inside my chest...
Do you play live?
mos def...
mostly before i went to school in CSprings. Played quite a few in Houston, Texas. But i made my share of mistakes and i ended up going down a path that wasn't the ideal route to pursuit my musical aspirations. I can honestly say that, performing is the one time i truly feel alive. Music is my energy; it's my flame; My favorite performance would probably have to be this alternative art festival out in Downtown Houston in 2004... All types of under the influence, behind the wheels with my Darth Vader mask on, wearing purple saran wrap since my shirt was promptly removed by a few of UT's finest swimmers... oh yeah, i cant lie... the females are a nice additional perk of being a musician haha...

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
seriously dont have enough space to describe the massive impact, but... simply put, the internet has transformed the marketing and production of music. For instance, my @ss has been everywhere in the last year because of my "job". With the lack of stability in that facet of my life, it is even more difficult to establish the strong roots necessary to succeed in the music industry. but the internet... is the great equalizer; it's opportunity
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
if i could still be ME... hell yes

Your influences?
i love music of all genres...
the album that changed my life was DJ Shadow's Endtroducing way back in the fall of 1996. i guess his influence is heavy in my music because a lot of people have compared me to him. I also love Radiohead, Rage, Chris Cornell, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Curtis Mayfield, Nine Inch Nails, Gil Scot Heron and Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Miles, Coltrane, George Benson, Donal Byrd, McLaughlin, Axelrod... i could go for days, as i am truly a student of music
