FIRST TIMERS, WELCOME TO THE EXPERIENCE!TO MY LOYAL FAN BASE, FAMILIES & EXTENDED FAMILIES, SUPPORTERS, VALUED BUSINESS ASSOCIATES AND CORPORATE SPONSORS, THIS IS ANOTHER CHAPTER IN THE ONGOING SAGA THAT IS THE CAREER OF THE HIP HOP EXTRAORDINAIRE KNOWN TO YOU AS "PRO THE SPECTACULA."
YOU KNOW HOW WE DO!
YOU KNOW HOW WE DO!
Why this name?
My professional/stage name was given to me by a business associate and friend Doulos back in the day. He use to always say that I was the "Professional" one in everything that I do. So "The Professional" got downsized to "The PRO" then again to "PRO" because it was difficult to use "The PRO" in rhymes, it just didn't flow smoothly. Then a couple of years later my solo career took off and my ego did as well, so now you have "PRO The Spectacula". I guess like a magician or something because no one can figure out how I do the the things that I do with my entertainment ventures and as an artist. A name bestowed upon you by your respected peers,is far greater than one bestowed upon yourself.
Do you play live?
Hip Hop/Urban Clubs mostly on the East Coast (US). Recently, I have limited myself to exclusive DVD project peformances. However, I spot date when necessary.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
MP3's are part of the music revolution! The power in back in the hands of the independent artists/producers/labels. Consumers who have open minds can now find the music that really fits their tastes without giving into what the major labels have programmed them to believe they like. It's less overhead and quicker to distribute. Piracy is an issue but just write that loss off as promotion, it's going to happen regardless. The music industry poisoned itself from the inside out and a major change is taking place. Go ahead spend alot of $ and take 30 days to send out cd's to Dj's, radio, and retail. I 'll take 30 days and hit 3 times the people you hit while sitting at my desk at home or on my laptop in the airport. "MP3" "Major Power 3x's"
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
For What? I have worldwide digital distribution and licensing thru my own label deal, and I control my product. All a major can do for me is let me take their marketing & promotion budget to push my ventures even further. If an artists goes platinum with a major label, that's approximately $15 million in sales revenue ($15 cd average retail cost), an artist see's approximately $300,000 from $15 million! And you're asking me would I sign with a major. I won't disclose my current deals but I can tell you that I don't even need to sell $100,000 albums to make $300,000. The numbers don't lie but A&R's and record executives do! Marinate on that for a while.
Band History:
Los Angeles, “Cali”fornia, has bred many great entertainers but has forged only one PRO. Born Amilcar Cabral Welton, PRO’s task to liberate Hip Hop through his skills as an artist and businessman derive directly from his namesake, and African freedom fighter who liberated a turmoiled country in Africa. Revolution is embedded in his name and bloodline!
Reborn to Hip Hop in the mid-80’s when DJ Outlaw, a long time friend and mentor, spun “Jam On It” by Nucleus at a grade school party. PRO’s life changed that day and Hip Hop culture began to raise him through DJ’in, MC’in, break’in, and graffiti. Along with other influences such as R&B, Soul, Rock, and the streets acting as his step-parents, he began to define who he would soon become as an artist.
As a teen PRO began his career as an artist and entrepreneur by starting his own mobile DJ company and perfecting his mic skills in the group 2 lbs. Of Knowledge with West Coast notable, Bam (Snoop Dogg, Tha Eastsiderz, Dr. Dre, DJ Quik). In 1997, PRO teamed up with his long time friend, Kifani “Black Bolo” Thompson, to launch UH HUH Entertainment. The indie label would produce four classic local Hip Hop releases, which moved substantial underground units and created a noticeable buzz. In 2002 circumstances, demand, and destiny moved PRO into a solo career while at the same time launching PROvizion Music Architecture, a mutli-purpose independent entertainment venture. PROvizion manages PRO’s career, develops a select group of artists, A&R’s music production, initiates cost effective marketing and promotion plans for clients, and consults other entertainment entities.
PRO’s style, vocal tone, and delivery are unique to him and his universal appeal makes him the “total package” as an artist. The fans, new consumers, executives, and the media embrace him as they experience him. A high octane blend of the old school, new school, and the current music revolution, PRO brings his lyrical fortitude to every track that is able to withstand his dynamic flow.
PRO will deliver a high quality, universal, impacting, and true to self, classic. His album will magnify his undeniable talent, drive, professionalism, and overall marketability. PRO has survived the typical label, management, and industry antics, always becoming stronger and working harder to share his gift with the world. He currently continues to be featured on CD and DVD projects, mix tapes, online, and in publications throughout the US and the UK. As an artist PRO continues to grow, as does his loyal fan base. He was recently asked, “Why are you here?” his reply…”For the love of Hip Hop and to take everything you owe me!”
