Why this name?
It's slang-Latin used in the army for 'don't let the bastards grind you down', although it's used that often that people think it's the real Latin. In fact, the real Latin is 'illegitimis nil carborundum', but we named ourselves the slang (less of a mouthful!)
Do you play live?
We have played a number of gigs since starting out in March 2007, and we always enjoy sharing our anti-government brutality with the people. We are mainly based around Leeds venues, but we have played Wakefield and York a couple of times; wherever we are though, they're always nice venues and we can pull off a brutal show.
Band History:
Nil Carborundum began life in 2004 as a multi-genre solo project ran by Lee Thrower. Before long, metal started dominating the project's songwriting more and more, before becoming a full-on death/black-metal project.
After a few years of casual songwriting in his spare-time, Lee suddenly had the opportunity to take his band onstage in March 2007, and so set out to look for a full band-lineup. Only half was gathered however, with Lee on guitar, his brother Danny on lead vocals, and his best mate Dave on bass.
Failing to find dedicated drummers or keyboardists, Nil Carborundum made do with pre-programmed backing tracks, which they hoped would only be a temporary thing... it wasn't! The trio made do with this arrangement for their whole time - save one single gig on Halloween 2008 where they had a live drummer - and gained a nice local fanbase along the way.
Only ever finding lead guitarists that were at least willing to try out - then losing interest very quickly - Nil Carborundum have finally found their dedicated lead guitarist in the form of Leon Byrne. This is the current state of the lineup, and the band have taken a hiatus from gigging, whilst working behind the scenes to hunt down the remaining members for a killer-lineup.
Keep a look out, cuz they will only return when they know they've made the progress required to reappear, and will f***ing rule!!!!
