7053 is comprised of Derek Wunderlich, a singer/pianist/songwriter. Formerly the lead of The Betting Fraternity and Forgotten Sounds, Derek has taken his songs and presented them in a stripped down solo appeal. It's raw.
Why this name?
7053 is the number given to Rosa Parks when she stood up against her fear as well as the fear of others and was arrested for it. That number represents more than just a prison i.d., it represents the idea that this is your life and you can push as far as you want and without doing so you will never know how far you can go.
Do you play live?
I love doing live shows, it's then you can get that raw emotion. I used to play all over the bar area with my bands, but decided to only do select shows when I felt it was needed. I am open to anything.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet, as a music connection, gets people from all around the world to listen to music. All kinds of music. It moves people and inspires people. If we didn't have the internet the community wouldn't know how ecclectic it could actually be. In this age you can hear music from around the world incorporated into all styles.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
lol...um... I decided to stay away from all that when I saw what it did to me and others. Who knows..nothing is for certain or forever. I keep my life open.
Band History:
There was a time when I couldn't express myself. No hugs, no communication, no love. In 1996 I discovered playing the piano, singing, and writing. I found a way to get it out. I decided, wish encouragement, to play my song with a band for the high school talent show. I won the grand prize. Seeing how my song, something so important to me, impacted people's hearts and minds, pushed me to get my message of LIFE out there. While a performer at Paramount's Great America I continuedmy musical career. I joined bands, and performed all around the bay area and even some in Los Angeles. Making people think was what my message was. Just to think.
Your influences?
Man...I like EVERYTHING. Everything gets incorporated in what I do. Bjork, NIN, Tori Amos, Kelly Clarkson, 30 Seconds to Mars, Imogen Heap/Frou Frou, Lindsay Lohan, The Used, Alanis Morrissette, Sigur Ros, Brooke Valentine, Ciara, Nelly Furtado........I mean I'm talking everything. I can't even go down the list. lol.
