If you were to ask me today, I would immediately say Ilan Ashkenazi, although I would have no idea how to pronounce the name. This artist defies all precedents and preconceptions about guitar playing, expressing to his listeners that shred is not dead; it's alive with new avenues to explore. Taking his technique above and beyond your average "virtuoso" with super-human speed and accuracy, he leaves every other guitarist choking on the dust of his unbelievable sound.
