Sonne Black has, from a very young age, been influenced greatly by hip hop as an art form and as a culture. Hailing from Queens, the New York MC is extremely passionate about his music and takes his talent for wordplay and rhyme very seriously.
Why this name?
From the movie "Donnie Brasco"... Sonne Black controlled everything and did it in a way that people say reminds them of me.
Do you play live?
In 2004, Club Pyramid in NYC and more recently.. the 2005/2006 Jump Off in Corona, NYC. I plan to do more performances in the future.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
There's no more selling CDs out the trunk of your car and I think it's a lot harder to move major units with all the sharing of files going on... I also feel that the internet allows for greater exposure of unsigned artists like myself.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes... after going through all the fine print.
Your influences?
Myself... I inspired myself, I moved myself. This is what I want to do, this is where I want to be.
Favorite spot?
New York
