Combine Celtic with Country and you've got the golden flavor, not too Irish and not too Country, but the perfect balance of the two. VERY ORIGINAL..
Why this name?
It's my original name.
Do you play live?
I have the advantage of performing with my full band to solo gigs in all types of venues from House of Blues, Concert venues, auditoriums to the local venues and pubs, outdoor festivals i.e. Pomona Irish Fair, Great American Irish Fair (oc area). I have done solo tours in New York, Ireland and around CA.
SPECIAL MOMENT!
I was performing at an outdoor gig with my band one summer and after the gig this homeless person who watched my full show came up to me and handed me a dollar to thank me for my music. I framed that dollar as a reminder when the chips are down not to loose sight of my dream:)

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It might be more cost effective to the artist not to have to manufacture cd's hard copy as its expensive when doing it independently, it serves me well to be able to sell my songs digitally even when I dont have a full hard copy album, I can put up demos that I have done even if its 3-4 songs and sell them and get exposure easily without having to depend or wait on getting signed. I have access to more music outlets than before to help get my music out there, although it can take longer but better than not getting my music out at all:) My music can reach different countries also, saves money!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the deal was beneficial for me, I think you can reach a good development level yourself to get established and have record labels take an interest, if your doing well on your own and then offered a deal, then you have more of a barganing chip when approached and can call some shots and not sign your life and soul away out of desperation to get recognised in the music world and also make some money. yes I would still sign.
Band History:
Co. Meath-born singer/songwriter Maria recently performed and headlined the Angelica Huston- Gala Event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in LA this year where Angelica, Merv Griffin and Ray Bradbury received honorary degrees, “Maria was a huge hit” said Irish tv presenter Grainne Seoige for Sky News Ireland who was the emcee for the evening. http://www.hustongala.com/hustongalaeventinfo/
She is an award winner of the New York International Film & Music Festival for ’BEST IRISH FOLK MUSIC’ and is receiving lots of attention here in California.
She has headlined with her band in some of the major festivals and venues here in California and opened for Damien Rice, Michele Shocked, The Prodigals, Hal Ketchum, The Proclaimers,
Hot House Flowers, Saw Doctors, The Fenians, Delores Keane, Stocktons Wing and many more. She has played the House of Blues in Hollywood, The Troubadour, The Roxy, The Coach House and more. She has been in all the papers locally throughout Southern California, Nashville, & Ireland with raving reviews from press & radio including RTE radio w/ Pat Kenny. (see website on reviews) And just did a recent solo tour in NY for a second time with performances at the Bitter End, Mercury Lounge, Sidewalk Café, Fiddleheads and many more, to promote her latest acoustic cd titled ‘It’s Just Me’, where it received an excellent review from Music Connection Magazine.
Her original musical style combines country/rock, and folk, and with a raw-edged passion she lets loose. This wildly gifted Irish artist, a rising star in Irish music, captivates and enthralls her concert audiences. She can ‘still’ a crowd of rowdies with her riveting on-stage performance and engagingly quick Irish wit. A self-taught musician she plays guitar, mandolin, piano, viola, and whistles.
Among her fans now include legendary guitarist Dick Dale who spotted her at a recent performance for Samson Wireless in LA at the NAMM Show, and The Moody Blues’ co-founder Ray Thomas.
Maria is currently in pre-production for a full studio album to be released both in US and Europe early spring 2006.
"Her eclectic Folk/Rock original songs are giving her a well deserved reputation for being one of the bright new stars in the world of Irish Music. (Irish News & Entertainment).
" Butterly's voice is spectacular, with expansive tonal range and emotional power. She has great command of the guitar and mandolin. Maria is a life force…like a lightening storm she filled the room with electricity" (Sean Halloran, Music Connection Magazine)
"Melt in your mouth music" (Irish Herald)
