I started the band Novato Bravado while living in Novato, California in 2001. Located in sunny Marin County, north of San Francisco. I produced the album Man vs Machine while living there. The CD sold in several Marin County stores and got some radio play at a couple of independent radio stations on the West and East Coasts. Currently residing in southwestern Connecticut and I still enjoy experimenting with new sounds as well as frequent guitar jams with friends.
Why this name?
I had a little help from a fellow co-worker. He helped come up with the name. (Thanks Ken!) Basically, it was named after the town I lived in and my zeal for life.
Do you play live?
I haven't played live yet. I really have no idea how to even try. If anyone out there in CT could give me some pointers that would be great!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It allows one's music to be available to anyone in the whole world. It also helps level the playing field for someone trying to make a name.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes.
Band History:
Review from Upbeat Times in Sonoma County, CA. in 2001: "Mezmerizing, heart pounding delight. The dizzying effects of K-stran's beats are extra-terrestrial like. The songs just let the mind wander and the body float."
Your influences?
I'm influenced by Pink Floyd, Jean Michelle Jarre, Tangerine Dream, among others. I also like to listen to all kinds of music not directly influencing my music, like System of a Down or my favorite rock band the Good Rats.
Favorite spot?
San Francisco
Equipment used:
Korg MS2000, Zoom drum machine, Fender and Ibanez guitars, Tascam mixer, Apple computers.
Anything else...?
I'm a photojournalist by trade and music is my "hobby". I started by playing trumpet as a child, started playing keyboards when I was in high school and guitar in my 20's.
