Why this name?
It was The Jay Hansen Project last year but musically I've gone in a different direction to a more rock/reggae/jam style and I think The Jay Hansen Movement fits that change in style...
Do you play live?
Yes,; I tour all over the US, mainly colleges as that's where I'm building my fan base. I have grown to Love life on the road...
My first show last Spring was pretty special. My band and I played to a packed 200 seat Concert Hall @ Marymount College (NY) and played an amazing show...we stayed for an hour after the show to sign autographs...Those are the moments where you really feel like you're gonna make it...

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet changes the industry in so many ways...It's a catch 22 in that it allows you to reach people you may never have had the opportunity to reach before but at the same time it makes it a little harder to make a living as people can just download your music or burn your CD...But I download music all the time and encourage people to download my music so I can't preach to anyone not to download...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Right now I wouldn't sign with a major just because of how crazy the industry is right now...All you hear is how major labels are struggling but independents are thriving...I'm doing pretty well so I'm gonna stay on my own for a while...I've been approached by a few well-repected indies in the past 6 months so we'll see what happens...
Band History:
The new band got together after Jay and his old band parted ways...Months of auditions were held to find the top talent in the Tri-State area...finally settling on Charlie Zeleny on drums and Spencer Miles on bass...
Since forming in Jan. 03 they have been successfully touring US Colleges in the year since...
