Around the turn of the 20th century, the Salvation Army would take secular songs and change the lyrics. They would sing these songs as they joyfully marched down the streets in front of bars, restaurants, and offices. The Religious order of the day was furious. But the common people were drawn by this approach because they could relate to the music. Arise and Secularize takes a similar approach with the songs of this generation.
