We are a progressive hard rock band out of Long Island, New York.
Why this name?
Flight From Wonder comes from an Albert Einstein quote. Look it up if you fancy.
Do you play live?
We play out mostly in Port Washington, and other places on Long Island, and we really enjoy it, it's definitely the best part of making music.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has completely altered the music industry as we know it. In some ways for better, and others for worse. The internet allows lesser-known music to circulate and get out to the masses in a much easier way. The trading of mp3s of signed artists against the wishes of the recording industry is really a matter of opinion as far as whether it's right or not. However, the internet, and technology as it concerns music, has really done some bad things to the music industry. Artists no longer need to go to a recording studio to get their songs on a CD. They can download pirated software, and record their songs directly on computer, then onto a CD. Sure, the quality is inferior, but do most care? Of course not. So the recording industry suffers there, and other places as well.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Given the opportunity, we'd drop everything to sign to a major label.
Band History:
We're Flight From Wonder, a progressive alternative rock band from Port Washington, NY. Wait... Let me start from the beginning.
What happened was, I met John at the end of 8th grade during a field trip. I'm not sure but I think it was to Howe Caverns or some sh*** like that. Anyway, we started talking about music, and that was when we realized we had a pretty similar taste in music. He had been playing guitar for a couple of years, and my dad had one lying around that he didn't play, so I took up guitar. In Spring of 2001, John and I started jamming. We decided we were going to start a band. However, neither of us could sing lead. I started thinking about who I knew, and it occurred to me that Jesse Allen, my best friend since I was a little kid, was a good singer, so I decided to ask him, and he agreed to play with us. Then, we needed a bassist and a drummer. We tried out Alex Leptourgous on drums, and he signed on as well. But we still needed a bassist. We tried out a couple of different people, but nothing clicked. Eventually, I decided, "F*** it. I'll learn to play bass!" So I did. Now, the band was complete, and we had a name. Tempest. John had written some songs, and we started playing together as a band. Shortly before our first gig, Alex Leptourgous left the band to play with his other band, so he could be more committed. With a week or so left until the show, I called a friend of mine, Ian Newman. As a favor, he filled in on drums for us, and the show was a little less than successful. Broken amps, forgotten verses, and other things plagued us. Was it fun? Yes. Were we without a drummer once again? Yes. We were drummerless for quite some time. My cousin set us up with a drummer from Great Neck who we played with for a very short time, and we let him go due to personal and creative differences. In our search for a new drummer, we found Nuvraj, who was a perfect match for our unique style, and a great guy. So he signed on, and finally, we were complete. We had a new name, in addition to the member change. Now we're called Flight From Wonder. Oh, and John changed his name, too. You'll just have to figure that one out on your own. Recently, as of 3/28/03, Chris Utzig, a multi-instrumentalist joined the band. That's all for now.
