Kenneth Nixon is a North Carolina songwriter with roots in Rock, Country, Blues, and Americana. Born and raised in the Southeastern US, his music is laced with all the influences of rural life, and blended with an urban sophistication that balances his work with modern Country and Blues /Rock styles. His songs are snapshots of life, based heavily on personal experience and observation
Why this name?
My mother picked it out.
Do you play live?
I played live with bands every weekend for about 15 years, but now I only do the occasional open mic or solo set. I plan to do more in the near future.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the real impact on the industry has yet to fully materialize, but the future for all musicians who want to earn a living will require a totally new way of thinking. Many Independent artists will have to be experts not only in their craft, but also in marketing, promotion, and public relations.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, but I would not grab the first deal that came my way. I'm primarily a songwriter, so the thought of dealing with major label artists is rather appealing. I'm not seeking stardom per se, but I would like to make 100% of my living from my songwriting.
Band History:
I've played guitar for as long as I can remember. I spent many years in a long line of Rock and Country bands before deciding to concentrate on writing in the mid-'90s. My home is near the North Carolina Coast, and that's where I do most of my recording.
Your influences?
Eagles, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Gram Parsons, Police, U2, Wallflowers, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton,.........
Favorite spot?
So far, the best spot I've found is a rock overlooking Whitewater Falls near the NC/SC border. You find the rock by taking a tiny, hidden path down a slope, then the bottom falls out of the world, and you find yourself looking straight down into the tops of 100 ft. pine trees, and overlooking a gorge that's probably a thousand feet deep. I've written many a lyric in the rivers and streams of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Equipment used:
I use several guitars, bass, fiddle, keys, and various recording software. I perform all the parts, and compose the drum tracks with sequencers.
