With this artists multifaceted and multi cultural influences that extend from interpretive dance to martial arts from smooth jazz to acid jazz, from indie rock and punk, out to experimental ambient sounds and back again to death and black metal and so much more that “not genre specific”could be a bit of an understatement. Himiko’s music is most certainly not restricted to one genre.
Understatement could go a long way in trying to define the essence of this talented person.
Himiko's sound emanates from her inner-self and she states unequivocally that” It is OK to be genre non-restrictive as the human feelings , environment ,or moods change”.One might enjoy creating or experiencing a wide spectrum of music accordingly. "One does not have analyze and categorize things all the time”.

Himiko, an innovative composer, arranger, and keyboard player erupted on to the Canadian music scene in 2002 and in tandem with confidant, producer/engineer David(haunteddave)Nolan is responsible for a small torrent of very eclectic album releases. Six in total over a four year span.Himiko recorded 3 electro-pop albums in 2005 and she has ,for the first time, taken on the role of engineer and producer . The pop-crossover album "Mai"as well as the more beat based and dance able "Mugen" were both released in the last half of the year and did very well on the CANADIAN college charts.There is also kudos from the international community as Himiko says“the reviews have been very encouraging”. The final installment of this triumvirate is the J-electronic album "Shippo o tsukame". will be released early in 2006 on Haunted Records..
Himiko was born in Saitama, Japan, however she relocated to North America in order to attend The University of Michigan, where she graduated with highest distinction. Himiko’s current home base is in Edmonton, Canada.Edmonton is where Himiko attended the prestigious Grant MacEwan College Jazz music program She subsequently graduated on the Dean's list, with honors and an A.A. performance major in keyboards with distinction.Thier highest honor!
During her tenure at college, Himiko was awarded several music and radio scholarships and bursaries. Following that she received a(FACTOR) Foundation To Assist Canadian Talent On Record grant in order to do a demo recording.This demo recording of her original smooth jazz material "Sensually Yours" hit #17 on the top 20 jazz albums on the National Canadian college radio chart (earshot).
Renowned and respected pianist Charlie Austin states "She is a very talented jazz pianist and composer whose work reflects her deep commitment to not only the art of jazz but also to the depth of feeling, finesse, caring and intellect with which she presents her work! She is truly worth listening to! She will convince everyone with her strong emotional expression".

It allows me to put myself in the vulnerable position of having my music disseminated by my
contemporaries. I can learn and adapt in order to improve my composition and performance.
