Whats good everyone! Ambush Records is one of THE most hottest labels out of the Midwest. I'll let the music speak for itself! Listen and holla back... Support tha Struggle!
Why this name?
Ambush...because we plan to take the industry by surprise
Do you play live?
Yes, we have had several shows in different places. Gary, Chicago, Detroit, the Bay Area, CA. Nothing like a live performance cause you can feed off of the audience.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is definitely a resource for the independent music market as far as promotion, recognition, and sales. As far as the major market...well if the internet had an effect on the major market we wouldnt be putting music on Soundlick now would we....
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Who Wouldnt? We would prefer to put up numbers comparable to what Master P did as an independent guru and put them in a comprimising position where they would either have to give us a subsidiary or distribution deal (or blackball us), but if we don't reach that position then a major deal would be the best alternative for our artists
Band History:
Ambush Records, founded in May of 1998 by Al. Gibson. The first song recorded by Ambush was “Can’t Fucc Wit Me” (Lil’ Dirt). This song was recorded in 1999. After recording this song, Ambush took the CD to the local radio station and they were begging for a radio edit! The people of Gary also gave a positive response to the song.
Ambush released “Tha Struggle” in May of 200o. The theme for this album lso became Ambush’s motto, “Support Hip-Hop…Support tha Struggle”.
“Tha Struggle” which is the debut album of Ambush Records, is a collective effort between all Ambush artists. This album represents what Ambush artists have seen or been a part of living in an urban community. This album represents the atrocities committed against our communities by the federal government, corporations, and even our people. In other words, this album represents life
In September of 2000, Ambush became the featured artists on garyrap.com. This is
a site promoting Gary, IN artists. Garyrap.com receives approximately 3000 hits a day, according to webmaster Keith Harwood, who said that “Ambush, they’re my favorite Midwest artists.”
In October of 2000, Ambush did it’s first show together as a crew. This show, which was in Detroit, was located at the Tropical Hut. Ambush rocked the show! The crowd was begging for more material which prompted Ambush to begin recording their debut album.
In December of 2000, “It’z a Struggle” reached #3 on mp3.com.au. Ambush was getting numerous e-mails requesting copies of the hit song.
In May of 2001, Ambush was asked to appear on “Midwest Mobstaz 2”, a nationwide compilation CD, however due to certain discrepancies of the agreement, the deal was never made.
In August of 2001, Ambush was interviewed by Matt Sonzala of Murder Dog Magazine who said, “Ambush has some very tight material”.
After several disagreements, in 2003, the members of Ambush went their separate ways with everyone working on separate projects of their own.
In 2004, Vingence began working on his album and bought the Ambush Family back together.
In June of 2005, Ambush released the debut solo album from Vin (Vingence), “Dat Fire” which went on to sale close to 4, 000 units with sales in CA, IN, IL, FL, AL, MI, Japan, France, and Germany, with basically no promotion.
Ambush’s next project is from Lil’ Dirt, “Tha Beast is Here” to be released in Summer 2006.
