Now is the time for real rock music. Now is the time for tight three-part harmonies. Now is the time for ballsy guitars and pulsing backbeat. Now is the time for catchy modern-rock knee-deep in classic pop-songwriting sensibilities.
Now is the time for...THE WOMBATS.
Now is the time for...THE WOMBATS.
Why this name?
Because wombats are built for digging...dig?
Do you play live?
Yes. Mostly in the Chicago club scene. I always enjoy playing live for an appreciative audience. Special moment? Opening for Bob Geldof in a 600 person capacity club in Chicago.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I don't think it changes "the industry" at all. "The industry" is becoming more money driven and less music driven - giving new artists less chance to survive - because it is has been consolidated into larger corporations, controlled by number cruchers, who are more concerned with instant commercial success ("here today/gone tomorrow flavor-of-the-week" acts)and instant big money. However, the internet gives artists a vehicle to expose their music to a very large market: the world.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes - If I saw it as benefiting and promoting my music career. No matter how big the record company, it still comes down to the people and the resources used to promote the music.
Band History:
Kevin Giragosian, singer/songwriter/guitarist for The Wombats, has been a part of the Chicago music scene for a number of years - live and on the radio. The commitment to music began in the fall of 1996 when he and his brother and drummer, Kegham, gave up all conventional work to concentrate full-time on their music career. Together, with various bass players, they have thrilled audiences at every major club-venue in Chicago. Over the years, their recordings have been local-favorite picks of djs at Chicago's most respected modern-rock radio stations. "Everything up to now..." is just the first step in making The Wombats the favorite pick of the rest of the music world.
Your influences?
The Beatles-for song structure and harmony, The Kinks-for lyrics and perspectives on life, late 70's and early 80's power-pop bands-for their updating of classic 60's pop songwriting.
Favorite spot?
With good friends and family.
