Band History:
In 1999 Theotis "5ive Stars" Porter, Dominick "Prime Meridian" Epps, and Charles " Le the Nemesis" Sharpe formed a hip-hop group called the Ill Individuals. It was considered a hobby by all three of the Lakeland High School sophomore students in the beginning, rapping on karaoke machines, industry instrumentals, and lunch table beats. That winter they decided to enter the school's talent show and even though they had easily won in the public's eye, they were disqualified for inappropriate language. It marked the beginning of something special.
Later that spring they were introduced to Ralpheal "Tha Specialist" Williams, a local producer, and began writing to his beats. The Specialist liked what he had heard from the group so he put the trio on to some friends of his named Tavaris "Ghost Merck" Mitchell and Deandre "The Reverend" White. Now these 5 individuals all were on the high school football team and had heard each other rap before, and were all looking forward to expanding the group. So they did their first official song entitled "Su-city Collaboration", and went on to release their debut underground album called "Str8 from tha Streets" in late winter 2001.

After the group's first project got out they immediately began to hustle to generate the money to fund the next album. They met a host of different people over the spring of 2002 including Jeffery "Spook" Cook and Terrance "Majestik" Buckingham. Then only 14, Spook was just tagging along, when one day an opportunity came up for him to showcase his verbal skills. In our very first showcase as a group at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, VA, Spook replaced The Reverend for the performance. After the show, he proved to the members of the group that he was indeed an ill individual by freestyling through 2 songs non-stop without stumbling, which at that time was impressive for a 14 year old kid. Since The Rev was off to Duke University and Le the Nemesis departed to join the U.S. Navy, it left the group with a decision to make, and Spook made the situation painless because of his verbal vernacular. Majestik was introduced to the group by way of football; since all of the groups members were on the team. He was always there with beats, but he also could rap and so he decided to join in the family circle as a producer.

Late spring 2002 the group released a compilation album entitled Special Edition Vol.1. It was sold throughout Virginia, and parts of New York, Chicago, California, North Carolina, and Utah. After the success of SE Vol.1, Prime decided to step away from hip-hop to follow his true calling and join the ministry.

Early winter 2003 the group released its 3rd underground album " Special Edition Vol.2 The Lost Tapes", which had unreleased songs by departed members as well as current members.

In the spring of 2004 during the recording of the group's 4th underground album "Reasons", they were reunited with long time friend Eric "Ace" Knight. Ace, an R&B solo specialist was featured on a good number of the Ill Indies tracks, and quickly made a name for himself with his outstanding vocals and electric dance moves that demands attention.

Shortly thereafter the group picked up a manager but decided that he wasn't for them after they were left broke in Atlanta, GA with no way home. Upon return to Virginia, the Ill Indies began looking for another manager while still booking shows on their own. A close friend recommended his aunt Corliss Artis would be interested in the trio so they hooked up, and put out their most recent work self titled "Ill Indies". The album is currently unreleased but samples of the album can be heard on this site. The Ill Indies currently has over 10 albums recorded and completed to date and over 150 songs unrecorded.
