534 is the newest all-original Pop/R&B/Soul band to hit the scene.
Why this name?
We've gone through about 3 names since we've been together, we weren't really crazy about any of them. 534 is the number of our old address - where a majority of the band has lived, before we moved to New York.
Do you play live?
We play live as much as we can. We just opened up for Jose Feliciano in Vermont. That was an awesome gig, a great memory. He was a great guy and was impressed with our material. We're starting to gig around New York. Should be a great time.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Music is more accessible now than it ever was. It's a great thing for new artists to make themselves heard, reach out to a huge amount of people. Unfortunately for the veterans, if the music isn't paid for, then they are losing out on income. Technology is moving forward fast - and its changing not only the music industry, but the way we live our everyday lives as well.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
As long as the terms were right, absolutely.
Band History:
Formerly known as ORNE, and founded in Boston - the band just relocated to New York City under a new name to reach a broader audience. Their sound shows a firm understanding of good rhythm and blues music. Adam Root, the founder and bass player of the band took the initial steps to form a band after working with many musicians in and around Boston's famed Berklee College of Music. After much rehearsal in the winter and spring of 2004, the band made their performing debut at Boston's Virgin Megastore. They were immediately asked back. They went on to perform at many venues around Boston and greater New England for the next year. The lineup of the band includes bass player and Vermont native, Adam Root. The bandleader, and singer-songwriter of the band is Massachusetts' own Paul Orne. On guitar would be New Orleans' own Jason Green. The latest addition to the band, on keys; Brooklyn native Brian Ezra. The band has had the fortune to work with great drummers, and background singers as well. Their music is sure to hit a chord with every listener.
Your influences?
The great thing about the band is that we all bring influences from our different backgrounds. Brian on keys is huge into jazz. Jason on guitars is huge into blues guitarists. Adam on bass is a big gospel fan. I listened to a lot - it's usually old-school r&b. I like a lot of Luther Vandross, Babyface, Stevie Wonder. Anyone who can deliver - we are all about.
Favorite spot?
We come from all over. Brian was born and raised in Brooklyn. Adam is from Vermont. Jason is from New Orleans. I am definitely feeling NYC, but Boston will always be home.
