play lo-fi play hi-fi  We Won't Go Away
So a long time ago, punk was at its finest. Bands like NOFX, Bad Religion, Pennywise, The Misfits, Social Distortion, and others lead the way. But over time punk rock lost its direction and once again became a fashion. Pop-punk stormed the industry allowing labels to rape and pillage the already flaking punk scene. Soon after, emo (the bastard child of pop-punk and post hardcore metal) left an awful taste in everyone's mouth who spoke the word PUNK. Isn't it time we took back our sound? We thought so too. We are the band SHAFTED.
Why this name?
Well its pretty obvious where our name came from. Life sucks no doubt, but it seems that we in particular are destined to continue to be shafted.
Do you play live?
We are currently looking for a new drummer, if you are one or know of any, call us 678-687-7839, or send us a message.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It allows access to a much larger audience. While at the same time it increases piracy, the number of people reached through the internet definately outways the number of stolen goods.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure why not, (hey we gotta eat!)
Band History:
In the summer of 2003, I (James Nation) was currently busy with another project band called Coupe Deville. One day a friend of mine (Casey) came to me with some songs that he had written and wanted me to make some music to them. I told him that i would entertain his idea but that i was already in another band. We sat down together and rewrote the songs in order to make them sounds better and ended up merging all the songs together into one song. After we recorded the song we sat back and listened to it. We were suprised at how it turned out! Casey showed it to everyone that he knew and they all gave him the same response. At the same time the band that is was is had gotten kicked out of its practice space again. We practiced in our drummers house, got kicked out of there, we practiced at our singers house, got kicked out of there, we practiced at my house, got kicked out of there, we practiced at a friends house, got kicked out of there, we then practiced at a church. Thats right, a freakin rock band practicing at a church, but we started at midnight every night and had to take all the euipment back with us every night so that no one would know. But then of course we got kicked out of there. So at the time that me and casey recorded the songs, my band wasn't practicing anywhere. So I told him that i would fill in for guitar for the time being. The drummer that i was in the band with (Jason) decided that he wanted to keep playing so he asked if he could play drums. We started writing songs together and we were pumping them out left and right. Each one sounded better and better. The problem was that Jason and I were still in Coupe Deville, which was doing nothing at the time. This caused a major problem because the singer of Deville lived with me and he was getting pissed at me and Jason because we werent really doing anything with him much anymore. After a long drawn out debate we finally settled everything and continued on under our new band SHAFTED. Now we just had to solve two problems. We needed a bass player and we need a place to practice. We lucked out and were able to practice at Casey's house for a while. We played our first show on July 4, 2003. We didnt even have a bass player so i cranked the bass up on the amp I was using and we rocked the house. I had gotten a job at a resteraunt to pay off my probation and met a guy who played bass. (Chris) So we all got together and began to show Chris our stuff. Now let me explain to you our practice space. Imagine if you will, a small bedroom, already cluttered with a large bed, dresser and other various bedroom items. In the very center was a small half blown 50 watt monitor that we had stolen plugged into a 1200 watt amp, so you could imagine what it sounded like. Picture a small drum set with drum heads that were taped up to conceal the punctures in it so Jason could still play them. Imagine crashes and cymbals that were broken in half and that looked like someone had bitten a huge chunk out of it. Picture a small bass amp that we had stolen hooked up with another small practice amp that we placed on the other side of the room all running out from a crappy distortion pedal. We had no bass amp, so we plugged direct into some car speakers and cranked it up. Imagine all of that and you just might get a glimpse of what our practice area looked and sounded like. But we loved it and played there every day all day. Though Chris wasnt the best bassist by far, we were just happy to have some low end. But unfortunately our time at Caseys house didnt last long. His mother constantly complained about how loud we were, so we were forced to move again. Fortunately we found the perfect place at Chris' house. THings were looking up, we were updating our equipment, we acutally got speakers so we got to hear casey for the first time, and we got better amps. Chris' garage was great except for one thing. The winter sucked. It sucked balls. We all crouded around a small convection heater that did absolutley nothing for us while Jason would get so hot that he would still take his shirt off. I guess drummers have it made. But our time in the cold wouldnt last long. Chris' dad needed the shop back so once again we had to move. So we went back to Casey's house. While at least we were inside now, it sucked that we had to cut our practice time in half just to be able to practice there. We continued to practice and play shows every opportunity we got. Soon we started to make a name for ourselves and everyone was beginning to dig our music. But then life kicked us in the nuts and we had to move again. Back to Chris'. Again. This was really getting old. But shortly after we moved back to chris' house we decided that it would be best if we just let him go, he wasnt working out so we did it. That left us again with no place to practice. Fortunatley my good friend Nobody Famous let us practice at his house in his basement. We were there for quite some time. But we didnt have a bass player. At the time we had become good friends with band called 10/6, they had a friend who knew a guy who played bass so we told him to tell the guy to come over the next day. Ok, so i'm sitting in the basement at the computer finishing up the mix on our newest song and in walks this giant, long haired, short pants, thick glasses, spongebob shirt wearin, and by far the absolute punk cover boy. Jody, was his name. Probably one of the coolest kids i have ever met. This guy could freakin rip on the bass. He fit in perfectly! So now things were really starting to get good, but we decided that we needed another guitartist so our search began. We must have tried out hundreds of guitarists, and none of them came close to what we were looking for. Of course we were blind at the time and didnt see the answer was righ in front of us. The guy who reffered Jody. James Choron. His fit the mold of Shafted to a "t". So now it was complete, we had all the right players, everything was ready for us to go out and take on the world.

At the same time that all of this was going on, me and Nobody Famous had been working together on producing and recording bands, and artists. We met some guys who wanted to team up and start a record lable. They had the money and we had the talent, so we joined forces and began Vision Entertainment. We were an independant lable with 7 artists, a production company, a publishing company, you name it we did it. This is when things really started to move. Shafted moved out of N.F.'s basement and moved into the the studio where we were able to practice and record any time that we wanted. I think thats where the problem was. The fact that we could do it any time really brought some laziness in some people. We were having internal problems. Live had gotten ahold of 2 of our members and really raped them good. Life in the venues werent that great either. We had gotten banned from playing at the Boiler Room, the Brickhouse, the Monkey Barrel, and Grille 311. It wasnt really our fault, it was just that our shows were a bit too intense for those places and the crowd would react violently to our music sometimes. What can i say, we're a punk band, thats what we do best. This really sucked cause it left us know where to play, without a local home-town following its hard to get bigger venues. As the problems internally progressed, we lost our singer to life tragedy. This left the role of singing up to me and James C. At the same time, Jody was going through alot of rough times with his family, having to support his mother, he worked way too many hours to be able to continue with the band, so we lost his also. THis left just me, james C. and Jason. So we had the role of bass filled in by one of our friends from Gravity Zero, picked ourselves up from off the floor, and continued to do what we do best. We had moved from our large studio to a much smaller one but we were determined not to let anything stop us. But once again life said f*** you, and Vision Entertainment came to crashing halt when the two partners that we joined with decided to up and leave. This left us agian, without a place to practicen and we lost our drummer, Jason. This particularly hurt bad because we had been through all of this together from the very beginning, but it was all for the best. So now its just me and james c. We're currently looking for a new bassist and drummer, we're still writing songs and getting ready to get back on the road again. Will it every be the same? I guess we'll find out...
