play lo-fi play hi-fi  Lystic - How We Live Life
Equalizer Records is a record company based out of Camden, New Jersey that specializes in Hip-Hop music. Recently established in 2006, the company is owned and operated by two young entrepreneurs, Luis C. Santiago and Juan G. Perez (better know as Lystic & Juan G.) The current staple of artist that call Equalizer Records home are a small few local acts born and raised in Camden, NJ. The music ranges from a fresh look on life to the harder urban lifestyle music commonly associated with hip-hop music but from the perspective of everyday people. The goal Equalizer Records has set for itself, is to break away from the current downward spiral of rap music and create a variation that people of all ages and backgrounds can relate to. This universal music style will hopefully surpass the current boundaries of common music and take hip-hop to the next level.
Why this name?
Equalizer Records comes from what an equalizer does to music. It makes it sound fresher or more balanced to create a blend that is pleasing to the ear. That what the record labels goal is, to take artist and help them reach there maximum potential musically.
Do you play live?
Different artist have preformed live on many occasions. The newest addition to the current stable of artist, Prophecy, is know for his energy and free-styling ability, while Juan G. is well know for his beats and Live Piano and Guitar playing, just to mention a few events.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is the forefront for Equalizer Record’s campaign to revolutionize the music industry. In less then a year, we have received praise from fans as far as England and Russia who stay in touch with the artist and always keep track of current events. With out the internet, progress like this would be near impossible in such a short time.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
While Equalizer Records is in fact a independent Record label, we would defiantly entertain any offers from a major label such as a distribution deal or moving a artist to there label to help further that artist’s career. We would never want to hold anyone back from bettering themselves.
Band History:
The owners of Equalizer Records stared working together as a Hip-Hop act in 2003. Forming the rap group “Equilibrium,” Luis C. Santiago and Juan G. Perez (Lystic & Juan G.) starting working on there first CD. Like most young artist, they look forward to signing a record deal with a major label. They found waiting for a contract to be handed to them unfulfilling, so while Juan G. further his knowledge in music, Lystic went to business school. Shortly after they both finished school, they began working on Equalizer Records. Since then, they have been working with a few local artists and have brought Prophecy into the permanent rotation. A Promotional mix tape featuring the 3 main artist will me made available to the public sometime during the first quarter of 2006.
Your influences?
The artist find inspiration in many things depending on the individual. Equalizer Records from a business stand point hopes to follow in the footsteps of other healthy labels like Interscope but still maintain the artistic freshness of new labels like Machine Shop Records.
Favorite spot?
Camden, NJ is the main area Equalizer Records currently operates, but like any serious business, Equalizer hopes to make any place across the world its home away from home.
Equipment used:
The production team uses professional recoding equipment, from Triton Music Workstations to various condenser mics and recording programs on custom build personal computers designed from making music. All the studios are bare-bone studios with equipment and none of the fancy wood work you see in advertisements.
Anything else...?
You can look forward to many things coming in 2006 and beyond from Equalizer Records. The first Mix Tape will be available over the net an in the Camden area. After that you can look forward to the solo releases from each artist that are expected to hit store shelves nation-wide possibly in 2006.
