Years of singing, songwriting and performing in the Washington DC area have led Cat in many directions under many aliases such as Young RT in the Nothern VA area, Eflat Cat in the DC Blues Scene and Catfish in the Fredericksburg, VA area bringing together the talented Jamm-Biscuit band with Bart Balderson and Danny Grady.
Why this name?
Catfish seemed fitting to a southern VA boy that loves cajun cookin'. Collins just rolls nicely off the tongue with the tasty catfish rhythms and arrangements.
Do you play live?
I have and still do play live. These days I play sometimes at Cedar Hollow Lounge in Malvern, PA. In Northen VA I lead a band called Juan Mo' Time.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet definitely helps the indy artist get his/her/their music into the ears of the audio thirsty public. Too long have the big wigs dominated the air wavs with such little creativity.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It's hard to say, really. I'd love to say no, I would only sign with an Indy Label but if I were in the position where the Indy label could not keep up with the demands of the public.........well, you get the point.
Band History:
Cat Collins has always longed for the solo projects that loom in his head. It's very hard for me to sit at home and record, though, when there are so many opportunities to play with other talented musicians.
Your influences?
Mostly southern rock and blues like Skynyrd, Allmans, Little Feat, Stevie Ray, Albert King, Professor Longhair,Ray Charles, George Thorogood but also some Steely Dan, Eagles, Elton and Led Zep.
Favorite spot?
Hotlanta, Georgia!
Equipment used:
I use a Kurzweil PC88mx, Triton LE, Stratocaster, Takamine Accoustic and a djembe. I record using a Boss BR1600, Mbox and Protools on a Mac G3
Anything else...?
Mische is my Goddess
