Why this name?
I got a job as a dj a long time ago, and we needed a quick name for advertising. It came down to "dj wayne" or "crazy wayne", I elected for the more reserved "dj wayne" and my nickname eventually became just "dj."
Do you play live?
I used to dj at small various clubs, but mostly at a local Irish pub, and played out as a musician for a brief time, I've played at coffee houses and for large rock and Celtic crowds. I'm not playing out now due to health reasons.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It gives any musician with a computer and an internet connection, the ability to display their music world-wide. So I think it's a great outlet for music fans and musicians.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I don't think so. I signed up with TuneCore, and they're getting my music onto AmazonMP3, iTunes, Napster, and a few other music websites. So I'll have good internet distribution of my music. I also get to keep the rights to my music, so I like that deal.
Band History:
Started out 30+ years ago, playing 12 string guitar at a campsite, worked with many bands and local musicians.
Your influences?
I have many influences from Stephen Stills, Loreena McKennitt, Jethro Tull, Jesse Cook, to name just a few.
Favorite spot?
At home in my studio.
Equipment used:
I have a Martin D-18, a Taylor 450 12 String, and I use East West Symphonic Orchestra Silver XP sample program. I recently acquired the Gold Complete package and will be using that for future projects. For recording and music editing I'm using Adobe's Audition 3. For working with midi files, I use Sonar X1 Essentials. Both programs are excellent music production software tools.
