My full rap name is The Golden C.H.I.L.D.

Lyricism and wordplay are my two main focuses.

I believe that there are all types of hip-hop that can co-exist.

I'm not here to tell you what hip-hop is, just to give you my version of it.

Realism is all you'll get from me, I've done it all and seen it all (being locked up, bangin', parents on or slangin' dope, etc.). But I don't feel I need to glorify it, it's just a part of what made me who I am.

I put a piece of myself into every song, like puzzle pieces. Put them together and you will get a better understanding of who I am and why I do what I do.
Why this name?
Golden Child is a name I was called when I was younger, around the time the movie with Eddie Murphy came out. I guess there were similarities between me and the Golden Child character. I didn't use it as a rap name at first. I had names like Shorty K., Special K., K.L.S., Quiet Storm, and others. I ultimately took on Golden C.H.I.L.D. as an affirmation of my potential. It's kinda like a shield against people who have negativity around them, like, say or do what you want, but you can't fade me, I'm GOLDEN. Also I was born and raised in California so I'm a son of the Golden State(get it?). The C.H.I.L.D. stems from when I was heavy into battle rappin'(I stopped because I have/had an anger management problem, and would take things personally and become hostile), it stood for Competitively Holdin' Ill Lyrics Daily or Constantly Harboring Illegitimate Lyricists Doom.
Do you play live?
I have performed live at celebrity basketball games, Source magazine sponsored shows, battles and talent shows. I haven't done any shows lately. I have 3 special moments, at one show, I got to hug Queen Latifah and lose myself in her chest(no disrespect, but that was heaven!). At another, I got to meet and establish a friendship with Scipio, one of the dopest up and coming West Coast rappers, and a protege of Ras Kass, THE best lyricist on the West and damn near anywhere else. Lastly, at another show, I got to open for Ahmad and The 4th Avenue Jones, which was dope because they put one of the best shows I've seen.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It changes because people are now able to skip the middle man and get or give the music they want without the politics and bullsh!t. I don't condone the illegal downloading though. If you download because you can't wait for the release, but you still end up buying it, it's cool. If not, it is stealing from the artist. It doesn't worry me much though, because I believe that if you put out a good, cohesive album, not just 2 hot singles and some filler, people will go out to buy it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Aftermath, Shady, Def Jam, Fort Knox(Just Blaze's label), Star Trak, Machine Shop(Mike Shinoda's label) and G.O.O.D. Music are on my wish list.
Band History:
Began rapping at age 9
Was a part of numerous groups that didn't work out for various reasons.
Decided to go solo in 2002.
Your influences?
In Rap my influences are Rakim, Eminem, Ras Kass, Twista, Tech N9ne, and Kanye West.
In Rock my influences are Metallica, Linkin Park, Korn, and System of a Down.
Favorite spot?
The Golden State all day.
Anything else...?
I don't smoke or drink, but I don't preach either.
I am a vegetarian.
I have a mixed ethnic background, though most people see me as "black", I prefer the term "person of color".
I don't use "nigga" at all when I flow, it's just a principle thing.
I try not to use much profanity when I flow(that's hard though!) Beeyotch!
