Unsigned Indie / Rock band from the Worksop / Chesterfield area, UK.
Why this name?
The current name was a bit of an on the spot decision. Originally we were called 'Rain' and had been for some time, but as a band had become tired of this. It wasn't until 15 mins before we were due for an interview with the local press that we decided to change it there and then. Lee (Lead Vocals) happened across the word 'Avis' printed on the back of a Marshall amp, changed a letter and hit upon 'Avid'. We looked in the the meaning of the word which includes descriptions such as 'determination' and decided to stick with it.
Do you play live?
Yes, we've been a gigging band for around seven years now. We've played at just about every type of venue from Working Mens Clubs to Theaters and festivals. Our regular venue at the moment is 'The Old Ship' in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Mp3 has changed the industry by making it much easier to access a wider range of music than the limited stock of a high street, chart only store. It's possible now for an unknown artist to get heard by millions of people who otherwise would be oblivious to them. It also has it's bad points. Everybody likes stuff for free, but piracy is a problem.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Most probably. It would have to be the right deal for us though.
Band History:
The band was originaly formed in 1998 by Matt(Lead Guitar) and Lee(Lead Vocals) as a four piece. It wasn't for around 8 months or so that the band settles on their third Drummer Will. The band stayed pretty much the same for the next six year with the exception of an added keyboard player for a short time. It was the beginning of 2004 the the bass player Steve decided to leave the band due to other commitments in his life. It wasn't long before the band discovered an outstanding self tought bass player by the name of Dru. Although only playing for a year Dru was already an outstanding player and easily filled the void left by the recent departure. This brings us to the band as they are today - Lee Hodgkiss - Vocals + Guitar, Matt Liddy - Guitar, Dru Berrisford - Bass Guitar and Will Shemilt - Drums
Your influences?
Early influences include Oasis , Travis , Stereophonics , R E M and much of Britpop during the 90's. As the band has matured the influence has grown to include many more bands, the most notable of which being Pink Floyd.
