I am Bon Gart. I am he, and he is me. He and I and my PC make three. That's the band. I create unique electronic music with a beat. Not quite dance, not quite experimental, but all mine. Occasionally, I've been known to even add samples.
Why this name?
Bon Gart is my standard internet handle. Everything I do on the computer, is tied to that nick. So when I began to use my PC to compose, it seemed a natural extension to use it this way.
Do you play live?
I have played live many times, as first and foremost I'm a bassist. I love it, but there are too many special moments to list.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I believe the internet has opened up the world to all the varieties of music currently available. It has also reduced the quality of the average recording, as well as the quality of the average artist, for now that it is easier for independents to get their creations out there, that also reduces the industry quality control to an all-time low.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would never get a record contract from either a major or minor label, but if I was offered one... sure. Why not.
Band History:
I've been using a computer to compose music since back in my BBSing days, around 1993/1994. Before that, it was just Shane with an acoustic to write, and a bass to play. I never really did any composing with my trombone though.
Your influences?
Before electronic composition, I would have to say my three biggest influences were Thomas Dolby, Pink Floyd, and The Police. Then I discovered Anime. Ok, Japanese Pop. I started playing around with MIDI, and eventually moved to Passport Midi Workshop. Unconsciously I was creating some songs that reminded me of some ANime soundtracks I had heard. That was that.
Favorite spot?
I've yet to find my favorite part of the USA, but I've been thinking of going back to live in New Orleans again. I love the weather here in Vegas, but I don;t think I'll ever get over my Native Rhode Island. If it wasn't for the snow there, I'd still be in New England.
Equipment used:
I'm a PC composer. The only equipment that matters to me, is what I need for my final mixdown. For that, I love the Soundblaster Awe64. I've carted one around for years and years (and years), dropping it in different machines.
Anything else...?
Give my stuff a listen. It's unique if nothing else.
