Dale Haywood is a singer/songwriter from Colora, Maryland. After several cover bands and years of live gigs Dale decided to attempt recording his own songs. With the help of several friends, Dale has recorded a large catalogue of original music. His music covers everything from Country to Blues to Rock, but all of it has a heavy southern influence. Most of the recordings were created in his home studio and none of them would have been possible without the generosity and creativity of some very talented friends. Dale continues to write, record, and occasionally perform his music whenever given the opportunity.
Do you play live?
Dale loves the stage and performs every chance he gets. He has fronted several bands but realized that keeping a band together and fulfilling obligations was standing in the way of what he really loves, which is creating his own music.
Dale has performed all over the Northeast with several different acts. The highlight of his live experiences would be the night that his last band, "Haywood's Kin", played the Delaware state rally for the Harley Owners Group (HOG)to a crowd of 10,000 in Newark, Delaware.
Over the last year or so, Dale has opened up for Zane Campbell's "Gravel Pit Ramblers" several times, including a very memorable show in New York City.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has completely changed every facet of the music industry. It has given independant artists the opportunity to be heard internationally. It has changed what we listen to and how we are introduced to new music. There is not one single person that has not been affected by the internet.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course, but with extreme caution.
Your influences?
I was raised on traditional country and gospel music. At an early age I found "Outlaw" country, the real stuff, not the cookie cutter wannabe crap that they keep trying to call "Outlaw". Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, Hank Jr., and the list goes on. These guys led me to Southern Rock. The Allman Brothers, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchett, Skynyrd, and so on. I was real into metal in high school. Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Saxon, Dangerous Toys, etc........ And thanks to the internet, I guess I have come full circle and returned to my roots. I listen to alot of Billy Joe Shaver, Hag, Jones, and have a new love for bluegrass including Ola Belle Reed, Bill Monroe, the Stanleys, and Old Crow Medicine Show. I am also a huge fan of the Drive-By-Truckers (True old school southern rock at its best).
Favorite spot?
The Blue Ridge Mountains
Anything else...?
Music is a very personal experience for everyone. Rarely will two different listeners hear it the same. Every note comes with an opinion. Some good, some bad, some indifferent. The best ears are attached to an open mind. My music won't appeal to everyone but there are many who do enjoy it. It keeps my mind right and provides an outlet that I need to keep balance in my life. I am very proud and thankful for my musical accomplishments. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did creating it.
