Singer/songwriter Chalee Hollowell hails from Naptown, In and began writing original "Old-school" R&B music after becoming frustrated with today's style of R&B. "While the music is good, I couldn't identify with most of the lyrics. I felt I might be able to do more than talk about it so here I am", he says. "I'm not trying to 'turn back the clock', just write songs with meaningful messages & reasonably good music. Time will tell if I've succeeded.
Why this name?
It's what my family calls me. Chalee, not Charley.
Do you play live?
Nothing fancy, just some open-mic stuff & some private parties for fun. Most of my singing is done as vocals on my own demo songs in my home recording studio. The live times are the ones you remember & learn from.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It opens the world to artists wanting to be heard.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Ha,Ha. Is this a trick question?
Your influences?
Hey, I'm over 40. Everybody has influenced me.
Favorite spot?
Corpus Christi, Texas & the dinnertable of my mother-in-law in Naptown.
Equipment used:
2 electric guitars, 1 bass, Yamaha keyboard, Yamaha 16 track recorder, Behringer DSP unit, 2 condenser mics, & 2 dynamic mics.
Anything else...?
I'd like to show the world that you're never to old to make music or do something totally different from what you've done up to now.
