Hi! My name is Chris Thompson. I am a professional trumpet player, living, working and playing in New York City for the past 25 years. My music is an eclectic blend of jazz, world rhythms, electonic music and grooves. I hope you dig the sounds.

Do you play live?
I play live quite often as a trumpet player ("sideman") with Salsa and latin-jazz bands around New York City -- artists like Lalo Rodriguez, Tito Gomez, Tony Vega and Roberto Blades.
I am working on putting a live band together to play my own music -- stay tuned for more information on that...

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is the great equalizer in the music industry, along with affordable computer-based recording equipment. I was able to record and mix my entire cd in my apartment and make the music accessible throughout the world via the internet.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes. The distribution options of large record labels is really not possible (yet) by the independent artist.
Band History:
I began my musical journey as a teenager listening to jazz artists like Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. Then I discovered latin music when I started playing with salsa bands in New York City. I fell in love with Brazilian music when I heard the great samba singer Clara Nunes. Later, I found artists like Thievery Corporation and Suba, mixing organic sounds of the world with infectious grooves and electronic sounds. That is my musical journey in a nutshell (so far -- check back with me in a few years for an update).
Your influences?
Miles Davis, Sade, Freddie Hubbard, Thievery Corporation, Suba and Clara Nunes are some of my musical influences. I'm trying to wrap them all up into one tasty stew, as you will hear on my CD, "Red Morning Rise".
Favorite spot?
New York! I couldn't live any where else (well, maybe Rio).
Equipment used:
I love using a digital delay pedal with my trumpet. I like what other trumpet players like Cuong Vu (Pat Metheny Group), Erik Truffaz and of course, Miles Davis have done with electronic effects on the trumpet.
