What exactly is "The Beatless"? Born from the cassette culture + mail-art scenes of the 80's, The Beatless ™ is a one-man producer of electronic novelty 'art' tunes for the masses. Includes slants on Drum n' Bass, Minimal Techno, Spaghetti Hip-Hop, Garage-Rock and Dub. May also contain traces of nuts. |

| Why this name? The name chose itself. It was just waiting to be plucked from the ether and I was fortunate enough to be there at the time. Unfortunatley, I wasn't the last if my other namesakes all over the interwebs are anything to go by. For this reason I am also known as Paul Beatless in some places How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry? The internet/mp3 has changed the music industry ... if only because the perception by Joe Punter is that MP3 means "download for free". That's what I think anyway. Do you play live? No live gigs to date .... though it hasn't been ruled out. If there are any Beatless ™ gigs, they probably won't take the form of a live performance. Maybe piped music with an appointed spokesman answering any questions from the audience. Something like that. I don't think I'll go though. Would you sign a record contract with a major label? When the day dawns that quirky "post-industrial ironic novelty meandering" is the new flava of the month.. show me the money. I'm not really holding my breath though. Your influences? 'Krautrock' of the 70's (like Can, Early Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk) ...also Faust. Later it was Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire and Pere Ubu. Not that any of this stuff sounds remotely like 'em What equipment do you use Mostly Reason, Recyle, some Soundforge, a dodgy microphone and anything else I can get my hands on. Have you had enough of all these stupid questions? Yep, I have... stick in some stuff about 'band history', will you? ... |
| Band History: The Beatless™ originally sprang into life as a result of an ongoing computer collaboration/remixing project with avante-gardist musicmaker, Arno Camel. Later I began my own audio tinkering. The rest is Beatless™ history. Previous History: Various past incarnations include mail-art/VEC UK audio, Brian Aspro, and 1/3 of Southampton's late 70's/80's obscurist 'cottage industrial' DIY cassette release/gigging band, 'idid idid'. Since then he has been producing 'forgery' bands (under a variety of pseudonyms) from dance to ethnic. He is a bit dodgy. "The present day non-musician refuses to learn..." The Beatless, Tract 2002 |
