Rene Reyes of Portugal , was born to a European mother and Mozambique/Puerto Rican father, where she lived until her teens. After migrating to the United States and adjusting to the new world and culture around her, Ms. Reyes and her family would find themselves facing adversity homelessness and tragedy; but her faith would help her overcome it.

Her grandfather always stressed the importance of education, especially if one was to become a world traveler, because it increased the respect earned worldwide. "Control your accent and make the people focus on your talents and not your dialect to gain their respect. Native accents and tongues are to be cherished amongst family." So, Rene' is great at making American fans feel comfortable by suppressing her accent well.

Therefore, after completing undergraduate degrees in Social and Physical Sciences, and a Master's degree in English Rhetoric and Composition, Rene' attended Law School to help fight for justice in the murder of her daughter. After successfully gaining the closure of this tragdey, Rene' realized that since age six, she found great solace and refuge in expressing herself via poetic verse and playing her violin. When Rene would find her life as an ethnically mixed child unbearable, she would write poetry or songs. When struggling with the new world and the new people around her, Rene' would write more poetry and more songs. To date, Rene has seven published novels, under her own publishing company, Sweet Verse Publishers and . She Also has five Spoken Word CD's on her own Independent label, Poohmafella Records

In addition to these accomplishments, Rene Reyes also host a weekly radio show on Blog Talk Radio
(Rene Reyes! International Appeal), where she promotes the independent movement of poets, authors, singers, entrepreneurs and organization nationwide! Rene is very well respected and in demand worldwide as a motivational and inspirational speaker and poet, who shares of her survival to teach others not to always walk in “victim mode” and to know that being a winner starts within, by healing and achieving our dreams. How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

The internet has been very instrumental in most of my professional and private connections globally. I cannot be but in one place at a time, but the internet allows me to make a family out of fans and supporters, so I really am grateful to have this nationwide access. mp3 makes the most unknown individual very well known, if they are determined to do the hard work to arrive at a certain point.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

No...The goal is to make Poohmafella Records ( my own Label ) large enough to accommodate all of my industry needs and the needs of the very few artist we will approach over the years. The label was birthed to protect MY MUSIC and also keep things professional for me; however we have over the years reached out to very very few artist, to help them help themselves, but sometimes it just doesnt work out, because they are looking for major label promises and are not willing to really do the hard work to be on an Indie label.
One Spoken Word Artist wondered why i loved his work so much but never approached him for signing. I've learned from 2006 that just because an artist is talented, if they have a very bad attitude, if they are very difficult or if their reputation is ripped outside of their immediate home circle, then its best to love their work but never do business with them because the end results will be a living hell for both of us...DULY NOTED and a good lesson learned so that will NEVER happen again in this life. So, I havent approached you, there is a good reason why and just respect that.

Your influences?

Although my love for most musical genre's is vast, I especially love Spoken Word, R&B, Reggaeton, Latin Hip Hop, Classical and Rock and Roll. For some reason, which is a blessing, we find our style our artistry and our promotion methods mimicked by others so we consider ourselves to be a trendsetter and if you look at those in our circles, that we know or where we roam most, you will find our style, our look etc being cloned in one way or another. We seek to be original and of our own look, sound and style.

Favorite spot?

EUROPE, NEW YORK, MIAMI, CHARLOTTE, SOUTHERN CALI.

Equipment used:

Although most of my spoken word is written for an acapella production, some are unaccompanied and some are mixed with unique beats or in tribute to the sound of an artist I adore. My songs are also both accapella or accompanied, so when I am accompanied, I have friends with Acoustic guitars, I play my violin, local r&B bands and local Rock&roll bands are also commissioned to enhance certain peformances in certain cities.

IF YOU ARE PERFECT AND HAVE NEVER MADE MISTAKES OR NEVER HAD IT ROUGH THEN OF COURSE YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE HEART OF WHO WE ARE. But if you are real people, with real issues and regular ups and downs, then you wont get too mighty in your talent and forget where you came from and manage to have the sense to know that in the long run, we on our label WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL IN SUCCESS and the reason is, this is Gods work and not just us playing artistry for attention or to just be on stage...this is our calling in life and so it will always put us on top in whatever we do; despite big bumps bruises, roadblocks and tragedy in life. God spared us, so that means we are supposed to be doing this and it will always be done well! (Watch how God will continue to bless us in 2011!)
