play lo-fi play hi-fi  A Little Turnaround
I write songs. I play them with my band, HIGH GRADE. Also for a couple of side projects that come and go. I will play my stuff at open mics occasionally. Some of the songs I write are experiments, others are serious attempts at writing good songs. I am a mulit-instrumentalist and do all of my own home recording, programming, etc.
Why this name?
what name?
Do you play live?
I play some of my off-the-wall songs at open mics and occasionally during a break in another performance. I always get a good response with my originals ever since I started performing them. It's alot of fun, and I think a crowd brings out the best in a performer.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I appreciate the technology that we have available these days. How else could I produce my music so easily? I give away my music alot of the time
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
possibly, but I don't put any energy in that basket.
Band History:
I've played guitar for almost 20 years. I also play bass, synth/keys, flutes, drums, percussion and several ethnic stringed instruments like my gimbris from morocco.
Your influences?
I am a big fan of classic 60's & 70's hard rock, and Euro space rock/psych like Hawkwind, Can, Popol Vuh, Pink floyd, Amon Duul 2. Very influenced by Chrome, Helios Creed, Black Flag w/Henry Rollins, the early writing of Glenn Danzig. Love the Grateful Dead, Dylan, and other rootsy Americana, alot of world music from africa and asia, especially Malian and Nigerian stuff like Tinariwen, Ali Farka Toure, King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti, Habib koite, and also indonesian gamelan music. The Roots of blues are of great interest to me.
Equipment used:
I have a p4 laptop setup and use some basic audio hardware and mics. i've got a micromoog synth. i use reason for drum programming and other cool features it has that work great for live dubbing. I have an edirol pcr30 midi controller that i use for mixing control and also to actually play some notes on it. I own a 94 Gibson SG Std and a 2003 Hound Dog Dobro. I also have a 70's Fender Musicmaster bass that was given to me. I play through a 71 ampeg V4 amp driving either my Splawn 4x12 loaded with Vintage 30's or else my Ampeg 8x10. I've got an assortment of nice pedals, mostly Electro-Harmonix
Anything else...?
I have a great family!
