Sam Mixon - final 8 demo is now out and available online at CDBaby.com or you can download individual songs digitally at sites like EMusic, Rhapsody, Napster, MP3tunes, and of course Soundclick, where you will find more songs than on the other sites.

Sam has played in the Athens,Ga music scene since 1982 and has played in Porn Orchard, Rehash, Poolside, the Sunshine Fix (featuring Bill Doss of Olivia Tremor Control) and the Amorphous Strums (backing up Vic Chesnutt).

Final 8 demo is Sam's first solo effort and represents his best efforts to date, presented in a stripped-down, lo-fi setting. His music is Alt acoustic rock with a twist of life. There's a philosophy worth deciphering hidden among songs worth listening. Listen to all of final 8 demo and it will grow on you like a fresh layer of skin.
Why this name?
Well, I didn't really have too much of a say in that, although Sam is actually my initials. I am an acronym.
Do you play live?
I don't really play live right now, other than backing up Vic Chesnutt or Bill Doss. I am targeting music licensing as I seek to use my degree in Advertising and my abilities to write music together to form one great creative powerhouse. I can write music, on demand, with quick turnaround and a solid music theory to reach YOUR target market.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Music licensing by people like me.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe, but it would have to be a sweet deal with me keeping the majority of my publishing rights.
Band History:
After studying piano and teaching himself bass, guitar, and drums during High School, Sam dove into the local Athens, GA music scene, playing in a long list of bands starting with the Flaming Chopsticks in 1982. From there he split off into Doo Blan Tant with Robbie Collins in 1984, releasing a six-song EP, Rhythm Method, in the process. In 1986 he fell in with his housemates Curtiss Pernice and Ted Hafer to start Porn Orchard, which lasted until 1992 and released two full-length CDs and a single through CZ records in Portland, OR. After a four year break he joined Poolside, which only lasted a year.

In 2001, at the behest of Kevin Sweeney (Hayride, Acetate, Sunshine Fix) he joined The Sunshine Fix. Led by Bill Doss (Olivia Tremor Control), he jumped in and played all the instruments throughout the set. After a member shift in 2002, he settled on bass and backing vocals. Sam contributed heavily to the Sunshine Fix's latest album Green Imagination on Spin Art, which came out in 2004.

Meanwhile, Sam has worked with Vic Chesnutt over the years on pre-production for his records and the occasional live show. Then in 2003, Vic asked Sam and Curtiss to tour the US, Canada, and Europe to promote his record Silver Lake. Working with both Vic and Bill was inspirational to Sam as a songwriter and he learned a lot from both of them.

Currently, Sam has released his first solo project called final 8 demo. He plays all the instruments and does all the vocals on eight of his most current songs.
It's kinda lo-fi, and there's mistakes, from siblance to antsy bits. But the motivation is pure.
