........It's about the music again.
Read a review for Dennis Wieand
Why this name?
It's my name
Do you play live?
I don't play live, and I don't see that changing for some time. YOu never know though. But for now I am getting married and selling my place, so I think I am busy enough.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the internet combined with the ability to create our own CD"s, coupled with inexpensive multitrack virtual studios gives the musician the ability to totally cut out any welfare from the record companies that was once necessary. It also opens up a whole new easy way of sharing music with others.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No way! To me that's like volunteering to pay more taxes!
I used to play professionally, but music became a job. I couldn't play what I wanted to because it wasn't at all commercial, and I had to play music I didn't really enjoy. SO I burned out and didn't even listen to anything for about 8 years. THen I started listening again, and really enjoying it. It wasn't long before the creative juices started flowing, but I managed to ignore them until I got a great deal on a hammond organ. One thing led to another and here I am.
My influences are pretty varied. Chronologically, Bill CHase, Jimi Hendrix, Heavy Metal, Progressive Rock, a lot of Pink Floyd, then Jazz, such as Barbara Dennerlein, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Chic Corea, Branford Marsalis, Weather Report to name a few

Music is somewhat magical the way mathematical combinations of frequencies, Volume changes, timing, etc can move human emotion. To me it is the very proof that there is a God, for I can find no other explanation for creativity and the ability to enjoy beauty than the fact that God gave us a little bit of His image.
