Are you fed up with going to buy the new album from ur favorite artist, only to find that their beats are now made by a drunk crazy mad man with alot of sound synths.....
Are you not feelin all this giggy, bling sh#t.........
Do you wonder were the crackle went from hip hop.....
Lets take it back to '95!!
Sunken Heads are a group from Hackney, comprising of two members. Strobe and 12Milagram. With raw "east coast" beats, and straight out'a London lyrics, fans of the '95 hip hop era will fall in love all over again.
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN
Why this name?
Back in the late 90's when the group was bigger we went under the name DOA (dawn of the appocalyps). But as members dropped out and and the group started finding an identitiy we decided we that the name didnt realy represent what we were now about. Sunken Heads was the idea of a good friend Sam (if ur readin this from Oz Sam, bigg up ur self) and originates from the sunken playground (basket ball pitch) were it all started. It was the place at school were every one would link, chill and smoke the old school chocolate herbs. A place dear to our hearts and the location of our first photo shoot.
STOKIE FOREVER!!!!
Do you play live?
We love playin live and for us that is at least half of what hip hop is about, freedom of speech and hopefuly makin people stop and think for once. If ur on stage, that half an hour of open ears that want to hear what u got to say. We love makin beats, writing new songs and mixin down material for u to shuk out to but were just as comfortable chattin pure knowledge over some old classics.
We try and put alot of effort into our live shows and mix it up a bit each time. A live show should be suttin a little different from ur cds and records, give the crowd suttin to go home and think about.
One of or favorite shows to date has to be Fight The Power (the first time round) at the Telegraph in brixton, a benefit gig for the St.Agnus Place community down south who were facing evitction. It was a mile stone for us as we found our selfs playing alongside alot of headline acts, people that we have listend to for years and look up to. The crowd was live all night (as usual in brixton) and it was for a good cause.
Other than that i think Off The Back OF a Lorry was another wicked day, held by HQ. It had the feel of an old school block party and despite problems with the sound rig, much fun was had by all...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We got sh*t loads of music downloads off the net but the way i see it, u cant download viynal. If u cant afford our tunes id preffer u downloaded them than not hear what we have to say at all.
WE KNOW U GOT TO EAT BUT DONT FORGET TO GO BUY IT WHEN U GET A JOB CAUSE SO DO WE
peace..
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If there gonna put out our music. its all live. Theres no point hating on labels. You aint keepin it real cause ur independant and puttin it out ur self, ur just tryin to keep the music true. If a label can see a market that wants true music and they want to sell us to them then its all live. If they want us to change and edit stuff then they really need to go and find an artist that already fits that bill. At least then it would be TRUE crap!
Untill that day u can catch us independantly on Grity City Soundtracks
Your influences?
The early and mid 90's hip hop are a major influence in our music and rhymes. We grew up in hip hop listening to Wu-Tang: from 36 chambers to Forever, CypressHill: up to Temple of Boom, Moob Deep: the early years, KRSOne, Rakim, O.C. Rasco, M.O.P. Gangstarr. Jeru, Tribe Called Quest, Grand Puba, Black Moon.... U get the idea.
U can expect real drums, raw, rare samples, insightful and well written lyrics, imagination and suttin fresh...
AND NO SOUND SYNTHS!!!!!!!!!
