"More than just a singer/songwriter, Simon Andrews is a musically gifted and lyrically accomplished performer who can captivate an audience withing seconds of playing"(University of Derby Dusted Magazine)

The last 4 years have seen a massive rise in solo singer/songwriters breaking into the charts. However, Simon Andrews isn't your standard singer/songwriter. Simon spent alot of time becomming a great guitarist before he ever wrote a word, making his music not only beautiful, and heart felt, but also interesting and full. The songs have a distinct edge that helps them to stand out in a crowd.

"Mind blowing... '4 am' is a classic, one of the nicest songs i have heard in the past decade."(Craig Sharpe-Weir, guitarist of "Icon A.D")

Simon Andrews is a 24 year old singer/songwriter based in Derby. He's been writing and performing solo for the past 5 years after years of playing in many different bands. His music has been described as having the "poetry and raw emotion of Damien Rice with the guitar playing and catchy hooks of John Mayer".

"An interesting and catchy melody, and a brilliant use of altered chords"(Mick Smith, BBC Radio Nottingham, talking about "Dragging My Feet")

His 2005 Debut EP, "The lost art of telling lies" was met to overwhemling applause, leading to the release of his first full length studio album, "Far From Home", which has turned Simon into a house hold name on the Derby music scene, and his popularity has started to spread like wild fire. ("Far From Home" has now sold all physical copies but is still available to download from the music store on this page)
Simon is currently working on his second studio album, and if you would like to hear an example of his new material you can download "Momentum" for free by simply clicking here

"Think Damien Rice, but from Bournemouth and based in Derby"(Park Hall Live Press Release)
Do you play live?
I play live regularly around Derby, and i'm slowly starting to venture further-a-feild. I love playing live, especially when you get a great audience who really get into it. Recently I headlined the acoustic stage at the Y-not Festival which was a real honour and had a tent full of people singing along. It was amazing!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet and new technology has placed the power right back into the performers hands. There is no longer as much need for money grapping record companies. It makes it possible for performers to reach a world wide audience without travelling the world. Look at groups such "the Artic Monkeys", "Gnarls Barkley" and even "Nizlopi", They all rose to fame through the Internet (as well as still gigging regularly)
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
After self funding my debut album I've realised quite how much money and hard work goes into producing and album and gigging it. However, saying that, the rewards are much greater. So, if given the opportunity, yes i would, but I'm doing fine as it is for the mean time.
Band History:
I've been playing guitar for nearly 12 years. Since the age of 13 I was in alot of different bands, playing everything from Old school metal to contemporary Jazz. After a year at the prestigious "Academy of Contemporary Music" in Guildford (www.acm.ac.uk)I realised that there was nothing in the world I wanted to do more than write, perform, and record music. I started performing as a solo artist just before I finished the ACM, and when I started University in Derby, I continued to write and perform and have been gigging regularly for nearly 5 years now. I've now just finished uni and have an album, two EP's, and alot of vaulable skills to my name thanks to that. I'm gigging more and more and always putting music at the top of my list for everything I do. I've recently played some big shows and have put some stuff out on a small indie label in Birstol (A Future Without Records). I'm still working on the second full length album, some of which is now on my myspace page.
Your influences?
John Mayer, Damien Rice, the Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle, Ant David, Willy Mason, The Bluetones, Marcy Playground, Bush, Ben Kweller, Kate Nash, Frank Turner
Favorite spot?
Sandbanks beach in Bournemouth, the most beautiful beach in the world.
Equipment used:
I play a Taylor Big Baby with gauge 10 Martin acoustic strings and a Fishmann rare earth blend pickup. In My opinion, the nicest sounding acoustic guitar ever made.
