Why this name?
Simian Plus meaning the point of evolution where it is neither man nor monkey
Do you play live?
last week a friend of mine was a promoter in the area and he had a regular friday night at a club. he herd the cd demo and gave us an hour slot to do our thing. it was so cool to get up on stage and do this gig to finish off what i had worked so hard on. we blew the house up and people we going off. i took my MPC down and jumped on it in between tracks making crazy interludes.after the show people were saying it was a tight set an that we had just came out of nowhere, when other mcs and djs are more know in the city for performing.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
gives wider access to the world to showcase my music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
sure, ill take my money up front thanks!
Band History:
i started to listen to hip hop in 98 but i had started making it until 2001. me and my friends had no idea how to go about making it, computers, beats, equipment etc.. and also nobody to link up with or places to go where djs play hip hop.
that year i had moved to the city, and that when it took off for me. i met people with the knowlage and intrests in my projects. i worked hard from the ground up. i used a basic drum machine, old turntablesand caasio keybord. an old pc with a small microphone and ran it thought this PA system that was more loud and powerful than i needed. everything was akward but it all work. only a few took me seriosly, but i thought that cos i was the only kid on the block making beats while everbody else was just being a club DJ, that i would be alble to work with all the mcs in the city to make a collaboration album.
year 2, i was working with mcs, trying to make different beats to cater for their individual styles. the recording session went on for months untill i had made 2 eps. one was with an mc from London, and the other was with a duo from bristol area. i was getting these passed around amongst djs and promotors and rocking the open mic circuit.
in my third year of livin in the city, a lot of people worked their sparate ways,so just vanished at this point i started taking on my lyrics more and really getting into writing. i started working with an mc and a dj who i had met first when i first came to portsmouth. we set up a little crew and got writting and we made the best hip hop ever in 6 months solid. in total we recorded 14 tracks which we narrowed it down to the best 8 to put on cd handouts. by now i was using an MPC with studio monitors. a mixer and a Korg triton keybord. i was digging in every where i could go to find records to sample.
ive now moved out of the city as my crew has gone to. we now write music through the internet back and fourth. im consentrating on my solo project and a full length album with my crew. Hopefullly we will be taking the new meterial to the stage again this time next year.
