Band History:
Jim Emmons was born and raised in Northern Indiana and is a self-taught, self contained independent singer and songwriter. He taught himself to play piano by ear starting at the age of 16. He used his talents to record several local demos and submit them to several major label and independent record companies. After working with a few of the local known rock bands, musicians and recording studios, he sought to form his own home based recording studio to create and compile his own home demos while honing his writing, singing, and recording skills. Thus, The Underground Recording Company was born.

He recorded and released his first full length album, "The Only One", in 2005 along with the #1 SoundClick chart singles "The End of the World", "All Because of U", and "Hey Diddle Dawn". Another popular ballad that reached the top 20 SoundClick charts was "Stay With Me", which also received airplay on Joe Kelley's "Upper Room" on 88.5 FM in Fairfield, CT.

In the Winter and Spring 2006, he began writing and recording his follow up album "Scorpio" (released in July 2007). It shows that he continues to explore his 80's pop/rock/dance roots and proves that his talent and style have evolved and grown tremendously since the debut album. "Scorpio" shows strong influences from 80's icons such as George Michael and Prince as well as more modern adult contemporary artists like Rufus Wainwright and k.d. lang. As with his debut album, "Scorpio" was fully produced, written, and performed in a one-man-band style with Jim playing all the instruments and singing all the parts himself. The songs on this album create a diverse and complex playground of ideas and statements ranging from the serious ("The Seed of Love", "God's Children") to the sensual ("Exciting", "Just To Be With You") to the sexy ("I Am You", "Fantasize") and even to the sincere ("I Never Stopped Loving You", "Hello To Me"). Creatively speaking, Jim likes to challenge himself to take the next step in order to keep growing, evolving, and yet still be entertaining and enlightening. The songs on "Scorpio" represent strength, growth, knowledge, and understanding from Jim's own personal perspective and is translated through his music and melody into this wonderful compilation.

In the Summer of 2007, Jim was searching the internet and accidentally Google'd a poetic website that would largely influence his 3rd album. He discovered author and poet Geoffrey Dicker and found his lyrical work to be as imaginative as his own music. After contacting Geoffrey and a few trial demos were composed, a mutual agreement was made and the two creative forces were hard at work on the 3rd record. "In The Absence of Red" is an incredibly inspired, stunning and in-depth piece of work. With the help of Geoffrey's lyrical poetry, each song tells a story of love and loss, hope and happiness, future and fornication that can only be portrayed the way Jim has imagined it to be. The album's strong hooks, deep lyrical alchemy, and catchy beats are a strong indication that Jim's signature hybrid of pop, rock, and jazz have only been scratched at the surface.

To promote "In The Absence of Red" on a local level, Jim made many surprise performances at Bryan's Piano Barr in South Bend, Indiana. Most of the performances were recorded and can be viewed in the "Videos" section. Several of the songs were also featured on Joe Kelley's Upper Room radio show at WVOF 88.5 in Connecticut. Jim was also interviewed by the South Bend Tribune who had expressed interest in his story and music.

In the Summer of 2008, Jim released a limited-edition, digital only, 8-track album entitled "88". The album was based on a variety of songs that had been recorded over the previous 2 years. Most feature a pop piano fanfare and were inspired by some of Jim's favorite artists such as Vince Guaraldi, Koop, and Ella Fitzgerald.

On November 17, 2009, to celebrate his birthday, Jim released another limited-edition, digital only album featuring a collection of original instrumentals. "Medusa" represents a variety of grooves, styles and colors that any music lover will find to be attractive and pleasing to the ear. Several of the songs were sent to Geoffrey Dicker for lyrical inspiration in what would later become songs for "In The Absence of Red". The collection is a small sample of some of Jim's most personal recorded moments that he wanted to share.

Throughout 2008 and 2009, Jim has been working on his 6th full length album entitled "Throwing Stars", again utilizing Geoffrey Dicker's lyrical talents. Like anything organic, the album has grown and transformed from one configuration to another while twisting and weaving each song together into a seamless tapestry of sounds. The finished product is one that is instantly catchy with strong melodies and hooks. The jam based "In Time" and the love song "So In Love" feature some of Jim's most commercial work to date. The release date is currently scheduled to be the Summer of 2010. The concept of "Throwing Stars" is more than just a cosmic trip into outer space. It's about taking chances and letting go of your inhibitions in order to see your dreams become a reality.
