play lo-fi play hi-fi  You Wanna Dance?!
Amber Tennyson integrates different types of art together... "Art can be clothing, jewelry, song, dance, acting, etc..." says Amber; … “they all go together to make the perfect masterpiece. If you look back to our early entertainers like Eartha Kitt, Celia Cruz, and Sammy Davis, Jr. you will see what I mean. The entertainers then were self-resourceful, believe me [she says convincingly] it’s in my blood”. Amber has a distinctive sound you can listen to and get the feel of the international urban world. You will recognize many influences of music and how they can flow together to make the sweetest sound. Amber is currently working on an independent intro album entitled “Sweet Like Candy”. Amber portrays the sex appeal of the 80’s with the influential likes of Prince, Sheila E., Donna Summers, and Rick James. The R&B funk rhythms inspired by Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Aretha Franklin; and original jazz music of Sadé, the Bee Gees, and Billie Holiday’s time. Amber says… “We have to realize that each sound inspires the next and that is why the art of music is important.’ Amber and her portrayal as a vocalist of this period is not just for capital gain, but for her love of the art, a part that is lacking in many genres of artistic entertainment when controlled by capitalism. Amber goes on to say “With being an artist comes criticism and support; you must recognize your fan base and try to give your all. I’m not in this business to entertain myself; I’m a sharing person and I want to share the passion I have within.” Amber currently resides in southern California is working on independent music projects with professional industry producers, auditioning for upcoming film and television productions, and has recently joined the ASCAP family as a writer/publisher. Why this name?
I was born with it.
Do you play live?
I perform my music live all across the states. Right now my tour schedule is very spontaneous. It all depends upon where I'll be in town next.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet changes the music industry because it allows artists independence from corporate strong hold and at the same time access to it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It all depends on how much success I feel I've reached independently. I do feel that it wouldn't hurt to work along with them.
Band History:
Will update.
Your influences?
LL Cool J, Sadé, Kurtis Blow, and Sheila E. were my first inspirations. As an early female inspiration Sheila E.'s LP "Glamorous Life", became a favorite of mine because Sheila was not only a singer but she played the drums and rapped. I understood at a young age that talent was not one dimensional and strived to be well rounded in the Arts.
Favorite spot?
I love Miami 1st, and then New York. I also love Paris, and I haven't been yet but I think I'd love the countries Japan and Madagascar.
Equipment used:
The producers I work with use Yamaha Motif [I love the sounds] and Akai and Roland products.
