"Mauger and Conroy" is a songwriting side project; both play in their own band. We attempt to write and record a demo song once per session in addition to practicing and revising older songs, it's an ongoing process. Our current goal is to write enough songs for an EP, and then consider playing open mics to test the material in a live setting. Who knows what the future may bring...
Why this name?
For lack of a bandname, Mauger and Conroy is our songwriting collaborative.
Do you play live?
Haven't played live just yet. Looking to do a few open mics when we have enough songs in our repertoir.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
MP3's are a huge boost to music, but a major downfall to an inflexible industry. File sharing allows true musicians to find an audience without industry schmoozing. It has widened the range of avaiable music in this MTV-focus-group / target-audience age.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Never. Indie labels all the way.
Band History:
This collaboration started as an ad on Craigslist.com as a lyracist / singer looking for a guitar player. Mauger writes the lyrics, sings, and handles recording. Conroy writes chord progressions which he plays on either acoustic or semi-hollow guitar. The future of this project has yet to be determined.
Your influences?
90's unplugged alternative, indie college rock, and modern singer-songwriters. Imagine a combination of WXPN meets WPRB or WFMU. The music is a fusion of Mauger's poetic lyrics with intelligent chord changes as written by Conroy. The music is emotionally raw and dynamic.
Favorite spot?
New York, New Brunswick, Hoboken, New Hope, Trenton, Philadelphia
Equipment used:
Conroy plays an Epiphone acoustic or Ibanez Artcore AS73 > aNaLoGmAn TS9 w/Silver Mod > SIB Mr. Echo > Ibanez Stereo Chorus > Voodoo Lab Tremolo > Peavey Classic 30w with high gain tubes from Bob at Eutotubes. Mauger records the songs using Shure Mics > Adobe Audition > AMD/Athlon PC.
Anything else...?
Consider this a songwriting / demo project. We are continually writing, rehearsing, recording, and revising new songs and covers. Re-recording may be a project of the future.
