Belltown is an intensive rock/hardcore trio from Gothenburg, Sweden. The band was formed in late 1997. Their trademark is intense & hard music, but with major focus on melodies & Hooks.
Belltown released their debut EP "Desillusion Day" last year. The EP has been receiving top reviews from all around the world and right now the band is loocked up writing and recording the fullength album.
Why this name?
Belltown just fitted perfect. It sounded good.
The idea of the name is not very deep, it's actually stolen from the trash band Deliverance. Their first spng on theirCd "River Disturbance"is called jsut Belltown.
Do you play live?
Well, we live in Sweden, so we don't play that much here as it sucks big time for rockmusic in our country. It soon is going to change, as we get our new album out and a new record deal.
If you make it big..?
Well, that's no question there. It's soon time for world domination. Honestly I think it's just a matter of time before everyone is going to know about Belltown.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Let me say this, Everything that is threatening the record industry is a very good thing. I think the industry soon is going to find a way to take over most m3 stations, but it's our responsible to fight this and not let it happen.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, as we're about to sign a new record deal with a US major label it would be very stupid to say , No I don't do that. The thing is still we want our music out there and we want someone to pay for it and to give us the right promotion. Which an indielabel can't do.
Band History:
THE EARLY DAYS!

The story of Belltown goes back to the summer of 1997 when the two
friends Christian Lundqvist (guitar) & Peter Ravakko (vocals) felt
that it was time to put together an intensive rock band, with the
heaviness & the groove from the 70's and the melodies & hooks from
the 90's. The two men begun to write some song with the drummer at
the time, Jonas Olander from Swedish emo-rockers "Eyeflower".
Just a couple of weeks later Daniel Palm (guitar) hooked up with the
guys and their common interest for heavy music resulted in Daniel joining
Belltown. This also resulted in Christian going back to play his real
instrument; bass.

The band kept writing more songs, but they also begun the search for
a new drummer as Jonas had to leave Belltown to concentrate on
his real band "Eyeflower".
This wasn't an easy thing, but in December of 1997 a young man called
Damir Banic steped into Belltowns rehearsal studio and litterary played
the sh*** out of the guys. Belltown was now a fact, completed by four hungry
musicians.
During the first couple of months of 1998 Belltown nearly lived in their
rehearsal studio, trying to find their own sound. But in April Peter decided
to leave to band. This is where Belltown as a trio starts.

THE THREE PIECE BAND

After Peter left, the band quickly decided to solve this problem with letting
Daniel try to take care of the vocals. Since then there has never really been
any discussions about the vocal issue, which you probably understand.
Just one month later Belltown played their first gig at a sold-out Bikerparty.
The gig was very successful and the band kept playing live pretty much that
spring. However someone did not like the fact that it was going so well for
the band, so they burgalized Belltowns rehearsal studio and stole their
instruments not once, but twice. After putting the band on hold for two
months, Belltown was back in a new reheasal studio in September and
begun to write songs for their first demo "Take One".

The demo was spread around Sweden and earned the band more gigs, but
also a great respect among other musicians in Sweden. One of them were
Lars Häglund, bassist of Swedish rockers B-thong. After a gig together, he
offered himself to help the band to get more attention. Belltown then did some
more gigs and slowely, but steadily built up a reputation as an intensive &
hard, but yet melodic live band.

In the autum of 1999 the band and Lars once again got together, this time he
gave Belltown an offer they couldn't refuse. He wanted the band to record an
EP for his own label Slugger Productions.
During two hectic weekends in October Belltown recorded the debut EP
"Desillusion Day" in Golden Shower studio together with producers
Lars Häglund & Niklas Merits. The EP saw the light of day in late
February 2000.

BELLTOWN 2000

Belltown celebrate the release of "Desillusion Day" with a very
successful releaseparty in Gothenburg, Sweden. The band has now brought
in a second guitarplayer, Martin Blom. This helps the band to create the
sound of Desillusion Day live, but it's also a blessing for Daniel who wants
to be more focused on singing and have the freedom to not have a guitar
hanging around his neck.

Plans then were made up for an upcomming mini-tour through Sweden.
And the spring was looking great for the band and their motivation was on top.
But soon the band ran into some more problems. Just after two months
in the band Martin decides to leave Belltown.
Belltown is once again a trio, they do one of the comming gigs in this formation
before they decide not to tour as a trio. The band gets into their rehearsal
studio and begin to write songs for the full-length album.

During the rest of the summer Belltown kept writting new material for the next
recording. The band also took a well earned break through july.
In August the band was back on track again. This time they also had
have the time to bring in a new guitarplayer. Marcus Hermansson came
in and Belltown was now a quartet again.

Belltown is now preparing for an upcomming UK tour and to start recording the
new album. However the band has now left Slugger Productions and are
currently talking to different labels about getting a new deal.
