Why this name?
Making a beat is a skill. Anyone can learn it. The hard part is taking that beat and creating a song that makes your ear perk up. It's not a formula, you just have to have a feel for it. Like a blacksmith has a feel for his craft. So i took the name Beatsmith.
Do you play live?
I've performed at House of Blues at Downtown Disney, 14 Below in Santa Monica, Club Glam in Fullerton, The Block of Orange in Orange, University of Irvine, Alcatraz Restaurant, Brooks College in Long Beach, All Stars Club in Stanton, The Grove of Anaheim, the LAX Hilton, the Hollywood Hilton, the Barclay Theatre at UC Irvine, and the Aneheim Convention Center.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the internet makes the majors piss in their pants and the little guy feel powerful. This is one of the few times the industry doesn't know what going to happen from day to day. But that's good for people like us. While the big names are confused, people will actually put out the effort to listen to new artists. It's times like these that the next star is discovered.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, but my focus is on pushing my music myself. If I don't need them, I have the leverage.
Band History:
I started out in '99 with an R&B Group. I went solo in 2003 and focused mainly on production and songwritting up till now.
Your influences?
My main musical influences are my parents. Even though I haven't seen my dad since i was 6, I got my singing ability from him. My mom used to direct the church gospel choir when we lived in Compton, CA. I've been rapping since 13.
Favorite spot?
My favorite spot is San Diego, CA. It's a great place to perform and I was born there. Nothing really compares to it. When I go through something or I'm just pissed off, I'll go downtown and just chill.
Equipment used:
I've been using various different equipment since High School. I honed my skill with a Casio keyboard. I then went on to teach myself the Korg Triton, MPC 2000, the Asr-X, the Roland XP-80, FL Studio, Reason, Orion Pro, Acid Pro, the E-Mu MP7, Cubase SX, Nuendo, Digital Performer, the Korg Karma, and various other peices. I learn different styles of equipment so my style of music continues to evolve... I don't have a favorite. Also.. I make my own drums. I also learned engineering to give myself a different view on production. Being a singer and a rapper.. I will sometimes create a track based on the harmonies I'm feeling that day.
Anything else...?
