With The Sock Angels, folk meets pop in modern fashion, combining synths, strings, and drum loops to a mix of acoustic instruments and male-female harmonies. You could call it electronic folk, or as their homemade music label is called, Laptop Rock. Think of Yo La Tango, The Delgados, Low, Damien Rice, and Sparklehorse, and youÕll get an idea of where the songs belong.
Why this name?
Liked the sound of the two words together, something special and something mundane.
Do you play live?
We play live, so far mostly at coffee shops, acoustic shows. Now that we have a drummer, we'll be looking at more bars and clubs.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's just better access to information, who's out there, what's going on, who sounds like what, finding connections to other bands.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
why not? We're not holding our breath for that, tho.
Band History:
One of the few, if only, folk-meets-electronica family acts in the U.S. From their adopted hometown of Minneapolis, the band is optimistic there is an audience for their brand of delicate and quietly intense song writing.
The music, like the bandÕs name, is a combination of seemingly unrelated, and sometimes opposite things; light and dark, spiritual and mundane, dramatic and subtle. Folk meets pop in modern fashion, combining synths, strings, and drum loops to a mix of acoustic instruments and male-female harmonies. You could call it electronic folk.

Beginning as an alias for singer-songwriter, Daniel Francis, the one-man band quickly expanded to 3 with the addition of two sisters from Northern MinnesotaÕs Iron Range; Mandy, who sings and plays piano, and her sister (and DanielÕs wife) Martha, who plays violin. The recent addition of MandyÕs husband, Andy, on drums, makes for an even stronger family connection, but the band is holding the line on wearing matching uniforms or starting a sitcom (e.g.- ÒThe Sock BunchÓ or ÒThe Angels FamilyÓ).
